I'd like to see a serious attempt to make a "Harry Potter (or better) quality" series of films around the C S Lewis Narnia series - to this day (I'm 72) my favourite books, I must have read them over 20 times.Maybe more of a Netflix series than a film but when I was a teenager I read a set of books called CHERUB which I always thought would have made a good show, especially after the rather excellent adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events show.
They were teen spy books, but the tried to be more realistic than Alex Rider, young James Bond etc. So rather than a sole 12 year old thwarting the plan of an evil billionaire who wanted to destroy the world, there would be a couple of kids who’d help infiltrate a group of drug dealers in Luton or try and find information on an animal rights group that had resorted to violence.
The contrast between the drama of missions mixed with the teen angst of the main characters lives between the missions would work really well as a teen drama on Netflix imo and the nostalgia factor would be 100% be enough for me to watch all of it.
Caveats: made and shown in sequence - e.g. The first book is NOT The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, its The Magicians Nephew - the importance of the "artifacts" should be included (e.g. The Lamppost handle, the apple tree, etc), and even the religious allegories should be included (but they should not preach or be overly-religious). The stories, like the books, should be relatable to children and/or adults alike, and on different levels.
Have I been overthinking this?
