Sorry if you disagree but if your not roused and feel proud when you hear GSTQ then you dont deserve to br English.

Just my opinion.
As people who are old enough to remember the old Home International competition will recall, when Scotland played Wales, they used to play GSTQ for Scotland and Mae hen wlad fy nhadau for Wales.

Likewise in the Rugby Nations Championship.

It was only when the Scots began booing their own national anthem that they decided to do something about it.

As has been said earlier in this thread, it's not an English national anthem.

Here's a treat for the Laughing Bluebird and Gwylan (although I'm expecting TLB to come clean about his own nationality soon)

:)

The Breton National Anthem

They'll probably find the chorus a bit odd, though

1. Ni, Breizhiz a galon, karomp hon gwir Vro!
Brudet eo an Arvor dre ar bed tro-do.
Dispont kreiz ar brezel, hon tadoù ken mad,
A skuillaz eviti o gwad.

CHORUS:
O Breizh, ma Bro, me 'gar ma Bro.
Tra ma vo mor 'vel mur 'n he zro.
Ra vezo digabestr ma Bro!

You asked for it:

I was conceived in Portsmouth. My natural father is English. My natural mother is half English, half Indian. I was born in Cardiff and adopted at birth. My adopted father is half Polish, half Russian. My adopted mother is Welsh.

Therefore, I'm Spanish. Obviously.

If ever I saw a qualification to play football for Ireland, that's it.

Its also the Leicenstein National Anthem I think. The fact still remains it makes me immensly proud to be English whenever I hear it regardless of whether other countries use it as well.

Liechtenstein use the same tune of "Good Save The Queen" but the lyrics are different and sung in German!!!

Statements like that explain exactly why the English are considered arrogant by many other nationals.

Please explain what I have to do to deserve to be English?

Because I despise the royals and their ass licking toadies, because I don't get roused by a dirge of a song, because I'm not proud of either of the pre-mentioned I don't deserve to be English?

  :shootself :shootself

If that's the requirements then it's a good job I CHOSE to be a Canadian then isn't it? A country with an Anthem that has words like "God keep our land, Glorious and free, Oh Canada, We stand on guard for thee". Now stuff like that rouses me-because it applies to ALL citizens of the country. Immigrant or indigenous. It doesn't pander to an elitist few and their supporters.

Just my opinion!

It's a better tune too:cool:

England should use Jerusalem as an anthem.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green
And was the holy lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen

And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills
And was Jerusalem builded there
Among those dark Satanic mills

Bring me my bow (my bow) of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold
Bring me my chariot of fire

I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my (my) sword sleep in hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

England

Piss off, my bird's mum sings that at her WI meetings!

Maybe we could ahve the Match of the Day theme tune. Lineker reckons it's that national anthem of football.

And on the rare occasions that Ireland play rugby in Belfast, they play GSTQ - because the Irish rugby team is, of course, an all-Ireland team.

Not any more. No matter WHERE the team plays, "Irelands Call" is played instead of either anthem.

the song is about saving the BRITISH monarcy. surely you mean british not english. i used to think it was a great anthem when i was too young to understand it.
i am proud to be english and that is why i hate this anthem. all other home nations sing about the pride and passion they have in their own country. we sing about the pride and passion of there countries too. why can we not sing about england?

No, she's German...

I always find this statement a bit misleading, she is about as german as the rest of us on this fine island of ours.

She is a direct descendant of William the Conqueror ( a Norman ), so that a thousand years of non-german influence, but also Alfred, Egbert and right back to Cerdic in the 6th century, where we find the first real 'german' ancestry, Cerdic being a Saxon.

So as a large proportion of us can be included in this ancestry trail, where's the problem?

It's a 'thing' you say to defend the case for the Queen being an imposter in this land.
She is obviously trying to undermine the establishment and create a new colony for the Greater German Reich.......

Did they get John Redwood to sing the Welsh national anthem?

It was Russell Watson, who also sang the Welsh anthem.

So you got two for a tenor :dunce:
