Booing National Anthems

When did we start booing opposing teams anthems? It never used to happen so why now? Not only is it highly disrespectful, it also serves to wind the opposition up. Pisses me right off.

We started it in the 12c after Agincourt

Seemly the French liked to sing songs before the battle and the English archers got a bit pissed off with them so started booing( before dispatching them to the "other side")

I thought only we did it, until I watched the Germany Holland game.

why play national anthems at all ? most of the players dont know the words past the first line at best

given all the press about Croatia going to get Rooney etc . . .its the least they could have expected !

I think the Italian players deserve a goal for their rendition of their national anthem just now :clap2:

I dont like it. I find it highly disrespectfull. It does psych up the other team and doesnt do the team any good. Booing a mans national anthem is the ultimate insult.

The ultimate insult? I would've thought cutting off a man's c**k would be a bigger insult?

That would hardly take place in a crowded stadium now, would it?
Although the way some players go in with their studs it may happen one day

Public insult is either booing the National Anthem or burning the flag.

I was wondering exactly the same thing when watching the build up to tonights game, I cannot see the point of booing the opponents national anthem, surely it only winds them up and makes them want to beat you even more. I am pretty sure that it is only football fans who boo the anthems, can't say I have heard it at a rugby game, or any other sport come to think of it.

...don't even get me started on flag burning...

When our fans boo the national anthem it makes me cringe. When will we learn?

I hate it, never do it and never will. It is, in a way the biggest disrespect one can show towards opposition fans, players, country as a whole.

Totally wrong IMHO  :nono:

I thought they were all just whistling because they didn't know the words.Perhaps everyone should just hum and tum.

I'm in favour of banning national anthems from matches. If only so I don't have to listen to that dirge that is ours

I've always disliked the practice. When I used to go to Wembley in the 70s and 80s for internationals it was happening then, so I guess it's far from new and unlikely to be cut out quickly. Fining national bodies won't make any difference to those who do it.

The daft thing is, those same people probably get really wound up when others boo their anthem. It's a strange world!

You 'hate' all foreigners?????:(

BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE 70'S PROBABLY STARTED WHEN WE HAD A GO AT THE SCOTTISH, OR THE IRISH AT OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM.

TO ME IT SERVES NO POINT. APART FROM EMBARRASSING EVERY ENGLISH MAN AND WOMEN.
