It's my understanding that some of the aid is given in exchange for going onto territories and raping their natural resources, .....

This is where UKIP always fall down, they make quite ill informed, sweeping statements ....

Lol........there is some irony and contradiction in your two statements quoted above....

Anyone who thinks we give aid altruistically is a little misguided. It's politically motivated and aimed at furthering British interests. Sometimes this will be beneficial to the citizens of the recipient country, often it won't be.

Anyone who uses the term 'bongo bongo land' is a moron.

I think it is more an issue of how this elderly bloke talked about things in his younger days and he has not caught up with the World.

I can see what you are getting at, however it's a cheap and inaccurate point. In fact my post was almost the polar opposite of a sweeping statement. By it's very definition my inclusion of the phrase "It's my understanding" and the word "sometimes" excludes my post from being a sweeping statement.

Besides which, it happens to be true. We have given aid to the governments of South America in exchange for logging and mineral rights. For example our government gave aid to Brazil in exchange for logging rights, their indigenous people who felled the minimum number of trees for their own survival and income were then made into criminals if they attempted to touch the land and it's resources.

Wrong end of the stick.....I know we have no British owned logging in Brazil, I buy plenty of mahogany, most of it Brazilian,....(I am a woodturner and carpenter in my spare time)....we are however the biggest buyers of Brazilian wood, but the British timber importers simply buy it on the open markets from agents of the Brazilian logging companies.....I cannot comment re your other reference regarding mineral mining though.

Ah, I knew there was some logging connection. My apologies.

But the truth never gets the same headlines as playing up to the moronic minority ???

Always amazes me when people use a quote from a single party member to tar a whole party. If I could be bothered ( which I can't ) I could find equally stupid statements from members of the Tory, Labour, Lib Dem and Green parties.

Because UKIP dont have a track record of moronic statements? If this was a single example, I would agree with you, but it isnt.

Good grief Prague.... You know that he is right, the mainstream parties all have their idiots, who make cretinous public statements.....you are being selective......but it was a statement with idiotic overtones that's for sure.
