Try plumbing on tap as they offer finance on boilers

I need to get a new boiler as my flat is like an igloo. I had a quote from British Gas for £4200...

I have an average/small 2 bed flat.

This includes a Pipe Flush, a 24KW Vaillant boiler (which seems way too powerful for a 2 bed flat)

Does this seem too much to people in the know? How much would you expect it to be?

That is around £2,000 to £2,500 more than my company would be quoting you if you lived on the IOM.

The boiler duty will be high if you need a combi boiler; the additional boiler power is needed to heat the DHW heat exchanger and provide you with instantaneous hot water.

Does that include VAT? If yes 20% of the sum goes to your government, we are fortunate on the Island that domestic home repairs are charged at 5% VAT. This stimulates work in the construction industry and stops cash in and work.

We paid about 2k for a 28kw (wanted the better hot water flow) Worcester Bosch combi. Power flushed too. And wireless room stat. That was for a 2 bedroom flat. Been very happy with it.
The 24kw will do your heating, but its the water flow for showers etc that you need to consider.

Really appreciate the comments guys and all the pms. I shall give them all a call. Since coming home tonight I now don't have hot water so the bet price who can fit it soonest will do for me :)
matthew I was going to buy a boiler I've seen for 500 and get them to fit but wasn't sure if I'd get the correct one.

How's that illegal if like my dad he has the qualifications it's fine..

I've got nearly forty years of qualifications but I won't pay several grand to Gas Safe to prove it------therefore I am deemed to be a cowboy! After several hundred heating jobs with no problems at all, if I do the smallest gas job it will be illegal. BTW I do not consider myself to be a handyman. I now use a fella that has all the qualifications!

Just had a plumber and gas installer at my (detached) house. Roughly should be about £1,000-£1,500 for the boiler itself plus installation for our house - so about £2k all in. They are ripping you off. You should be looking at £2k all in I would have thought.
