Bobby Z - what do you think now?

As a person I never really liked him. Met him once and I can honestly say he was arrogant and thought he was "above" the club.

As a player, I always thought Spurs were a little too above him. He should have gone to a high division 1 team, low premiership team (eg Fulham or Leicester). I wish him well and feel that it was time for him to move on. So good luck to him at Spurs, but I think he'll be going next Summer.

Zamora was a bloody hero for us. He was the reason why we won 2 championships in a row more than anyone else.

It became very clear however towards the second half of last season that he " wanted out " and he had an attitude problem which culminated with his falling out with Martin Perry.

I think the change happened when he started mixing with the U21 prima dona's most of who were in a premiership set up and turned his head probably taking the Mick about him playing for Brighton.

He in turn thought Brighton were too small for him and was mightily releived when Hoddle finally brought him and saved him the embarrassment of div 2 football.

I have to say in 6 games in the premiership and his stints for the u21's he has been pretty useless.

Oh and whats all this about Ormerod coming good in the premiership , has he scored a goal yet ?, Bobby's level would appear to be div1 at the moment.

Are you sure? he didn't exactly set it alight in the same way Earnshaw has been scoring for example. (I hope he has been scoring, lol, )

I'd say his level was division two but still to prove himself at one let alone the prem.

Have to say though, I met him on more than one occasion and found him very pleasant and approachable and no way above himself. That said by halfway through last season it was clear he had had enough of BHA but we all have to move on sometime.

Give him time and he will come good. Also,he's only played about 30 minutes of under 21 football in his proper position and most of the games the whole of Platt's team have looked outclassed.

Unfortuantly David Pleat doesn't rate him at all and if Raddy Antic comes in Pleat will be very involved in the first team,so I can't see Zamora getting much more first team football at Spurs.

Zamora - Brighton legend.

For himself he has more to prove.

well i'm not going to agree with gg on this one.

ok i didn't go to stoke so can't comment on that performance but in the 30 or so games i saw last season, I can't really recall BZ looking dis-interested. In fact all I eally remember is BZ working his socks off to try and keep us up.

Wolves at home anyone?

and can anyone really blame him for thinking that he'd gone as far as possible with us. Potential full; england players (which is what England U-21 internationals should be) need to play at a higher than division 2

I would've preferred it if he'd gone to West Ham, the club he supports, rather than Spurs, "the club he supports" - the reason being that on TV he looks a bit out of his depth goal-scoring-wise and would've benefitted from a big club in Div 1 rather than straight to the Prem.

Having said that, we wouldn't have got 1.5 mill for him otherwise, so it's best to let these things lie.

I can't beleive some of the comments about Bobby now he's not with our club. Comments from people who seem to know exactly what his motivation was on a given match. Well for me his motivation has never been in question. From the moment I saw him step foot on the pitch in a Brighton shirt head and shoulders in enthusiasm and commitment on a par with our most loyal and committed, but less talented, players. Indeed, if anything I feel anxiety for him in that I hope his career doesn't turn like it has for so many because of confidence and change. If any of you are even in the slightest bit insinuating you wouldn't have him back then you are liars. Full respect for him, he still fills me with pride because if he does nothing else the best days of his career were at our great club, and, which I dearly hope he does, if he goes on to excel and shine in the premier like he did in the league we can say it all started at BHA and I was there for the priviledge.

I am convinced BZ will prove a lot of doubters wrong when he a). gets decent service (lacking so far, although Blondel added something to Spurs midfield v Coventry) and b) gets a decent run in the side.

Kanoute is on fire at the moment and he has Postiga in front of him too, but Keane and Kanoute are prone to injury.....

My last memory of Bobby as a Brighton player will be him scoring a goal with his head and saluting the crowd. What he achieved with us was truely remarkable, and beyond criticism.

Yes, he has had a slow start to his Spurs career, but bare in mind that he is not yet a first choice there, and it is more difficult to impress in 20 minutes than it is in 90. I've always thought that Bobby looked better when he started for us than when he came on as a sub, in a similar way to how Brooker looked better coming on as a sub than he did as a starter, that is just the type of players they are.

Zamora's ability will mean that he will make an impact on the Premier League, and he is still young enough for time to be very much on his side.

I sincerely hope that he does well......, and that Man U or Chelsea then buy him for £25 million!!!

:clap2:

I can't believe some of the bitter revisionist history emerging on this thread. Two championships were down to Zamora's 70-odd goals, end of analysis. He was the difference, and a privilege to watch for three seasons. And singling him out from the Stoke away match is ludicrous, the whole team froze and had a shocker.

As far as his personal development goes, I really want him to do well and prove his Premiership worth, but I agree with Pavilionaire, so far at the higher level he hasn't shown he can do it and may end up playing for someone like Forest/Norwich in the First Division.

Bobby was a superb player for the Albion, of that there can be no doubt. There are very few players who can make you feel privaledged to be watching him play for your club, or to give you genuine hope of winning ANY game, simply because he was playing.

Even, fewer players do that over the course of such a long time. There were plenty of times I just sat back and took pleasure in watching him play, as I knew they were days I would be looking back on fondly.

Yes Yorkie, there were times during the run in where he wasn't at his best, but I always thought he was prone to have the odd quiet game, and that was largely due to the excessive expectation on him. I think the season in Div 1 wore him down a bit coming up against much better defenders who were clearly concentrating their efforts on him. The previous 2 seasons the approach was the same from the defenders, but he was so much better than them it didn't matter. Div 1 was a bit different.

As for just how good he is. He still has some improving to do to be a Premiership striker, in my view. I think he would have been better served by leaving us for a Div 1 club where he would be getting better service than we gave him, and had strike partners to share the expectation. I think Nottingham Forest would have been a perfect move for him. Currently, his game is of a Div 1 standard, no higher, IMHO.

But he's shown ambition, and now he has to learn fast, or he will be swept away into the reserves and will perhaps not re-emerge. He's backed himself by taking the leap into the Premiership, and now he needs to work on his game, score a couple of goals and start to settle a bit.

Personally, I think he's chosen the wrong club and will return to Div 1 within a couple of years. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, unless it's to return to us, kicking off the 1st game at Falmer, back in the Blue and White.

What are the odds??
Next week Reading appoint Glen Hoddle as their new boss.
The first signing they make is to take Zamora on loan from Spurs.
Bloody Reading end up with another of our players!

Bobby was injured for much of last season, but still scored 14 goals. Lazy and disinterested? I don't think so.

Forster at Reading scored 17 goals in more matches, and he recorded a hat trick.

It seems to be the Brighton 'disease' that we slag off our own players.

Say what u like, but apart from Wardy we're unlikely to see talent like BZ again for a long time.

Good luck Bobby.

I will always be eternally grateful for what BZ did for our club, but as time goes by, I increasingly feel that we were bloody lucky to get £1.5 million for him in the summer.

I am also more and more annoyed at the way that he sulked his way through most of last season - his heart just didn't seem to be in it any more.

What do you all think now that the dust has settled?

I can't believe this - sulked? He was without doubt a top bloke who could easily have walked away from us at any time.

I'm really sick he hasn't scored for Spurs yet. Come on son :clap2:
