Work and Pensions Secretary David Blunkett has resigned after a meeting with Tony Blair in Downing Street.
Mr Blunkett had been under pressure after breaking the ministerial code of conduct over paid work he took while he was out of Cabinet.

Downing Street had been standing by Mr Blunkett's ability to continue in his job, despite making a "mistake".

It is the second time Mr Blunklett has had to quit the Cabinet, resigning as home secretary in December 2004.

I used to work for DWP - worst managed outfit on the planet. one of my happiest days when I left them. Too many managers justifying their existence through constant change and cut backs to the grades that actually do the front line work.

You have my sympathy Yoda

You never see someone lose their job for a rise in crime or an increase in the poverty gap. Only because they bring shame upon the government. You could wrongly support a war that cost a million lives and survive, but kiss a man on the willy in Clapham COmmon and you're out.

It's ridiculous.

When he resigned from the Home Office, my old boss got the wine out of his booze cupboard, and we had a little afternoon gathering in his office. In fact, when Beverley Hughes resigned, he wrote, "one down, one to go" on his noticeboard. Considering the misery he got from both, I'm not surprised.
