There's many variables in getting promotion, the biggest is players and budget. Zola came within a sniff at Watford and i'd rather him than any of British managers i listed. Good knowledge of the English league and English players is more important, thats why Gus was succesfull, got us promoted and in the championship play off lottery. He didn't need to be British, he just needed to know the league.

how many British managers got relegated from the championship? last season Yeovil, Barnsley and Donny all had british managers, Charlton binned theirs employed a Belgian and climbed up the table...........

The only reason Zola "came within a sniff" was because Watford had the benefit, as they still do, of foreign owners who own 2 other clubs Udinese and Granada and were able to "loan" international players to an unprepossessing suburban football club.
