I'm sure if the Perps are caught, they will receve a severe talking to.
Really frustrating. Bring back the birch.
God help you if you commit a parking offence.

Last night, while out at Uncle Buck’s 30th Birthday beano, our house was burgled. Basically, the little bastard, whoever he is, got away with one of Mrs TLO's computer monitors, her laptop, some jewellery, a couple of items of sentimental stuff - and my computer. Funnily enough, he left behind the usual suspects like DVD player, TV, stereo etc.

The little piece of shit smashed a window in the basement at the back, climbed in through it, and went through the house to the second and third floors where we live. Thankfully, he never touched any of the school stuff - now that would have been heartbreaking.

Anyhoo, what it does mean is that my entire history of design; all the things I have done away from the office for the past eight years has now gone – which leaves me a tad on the cross side. One of the things I have to do is ascertain how I can go about plastering over the issues that this burglary has caused. I could have backed up the work to an external hard-drive, but one never quite thinks that your own inner sanctum - your bedroom - is ever going to be invaded.

It's quite wierd feeling how I do today. I've never had a house I live in burgled, and it is a f***ing, horrible, nasty feeling. Meanwhile, me and Mrs TLO are going to try and make the best of a highly unpleasant situation, and soldier on through. Her losses are not as bad as they could have been – the laptop, thankfully, had not a great deal of any real importance on it, the office damage was superficial, and the sentimental items we will deal with in our own way. I am writing this from my work laptop, which was thankfully not in the house last night - I am sure the little scrote would have had that as well.

Sorry for the offload, but I feel marginally better for writing this down now. Love and peace.

Really sorry to hear that, Alan.

Hope you get your stuff back and the little scrote responsible gets his just deserts.

He is coming anyway. Sadly, that the one thing we DON'T want to do, because it's the window nearest the school entrance. What we don't want to do is frighten the children into thinking there is a problem - nor do we want to frighten the parent either.

It is a painful lesson to us that, although we shouldn't have to expect it, we do now have to be a LOT more security conscious of the flat as well as the school. However, it's still not that easy to legislate for a broken window as a means of entry when you're balancing making the school welcoming with the responsibilities of providing a safe and secure environment.

But yes, the Crime Prevention Officer is coming.

Maybe the bars could be fitted but vertical blinds could be fitted to disguise them so that it doesn't look frightening to pupils and parents?

Just a word of warning when you get the insurance to replace the stolen stuff. Make sure you get all the security advice on how to make your home as secure as possible and take it.
Burglars very often come back within weeks to do it again because they know you have replaced the stolen things.
I was burgled twice in three weeks in Yorkshire. The windows all had locks installed etc but they used a crowbar to stove my back door in.

In this case they may come back because they know what stuff they did not take. A computer and a couple of monitors seem to suggest more than one person was involved as I can't see one person carrying all that in one go. If they had had a car more would proabably have gone unless of course they felt it too risky with other people about.

Been burgled twice myself it isn't very pleasant and makes you feel very vulnerable.

On the question of securing your basement if you daon't want bars across the window if you only have one access point to the rest of the house you may wish to make that like Fort Knox instead.

Sorry to hear that Allan.I take it you don't have double glazing then?If that was me i would claim a few extra items when you tell your insurance company.Just out of interest, how long did it take the old bill to visit your home?

Insurance companies are wise to cheats like that. You have to produce receipts/instructions for the stuff that was stolen and if you can't then it doesn't get replaced.

You have to do something to secure your home better now.Often burgulars go back for a second helping at a later date. This is a fact as well

I was burgled a couple of years ago. They broke into the flat above (2nd floor) nicked the keys to his new GTI they somehow absailed down a floor and came in through my lounge window. Fortunately I'd Chubb locked front door and they couldn't crowbar it to get out so they had to escape the way they came, out of my lounge window about 40ft up. They filled my large golf flight bag but only took what they could carry. Still added up to well over £1000. I was still finding little things missing over a year later. Like my Oakley shades and goggles the day I was flying out snowboarding

They never found the car or any of my stuff and they say crime doesn't pay. Hope you find some of your gear or the shite that did it, but don't hold your breath

Sorry to hear what has happened, I actually caught a burglar in my house a few years ago, he paid dearly for being discovered.

Even though I caught the little bastard and made him pay I felt violated that this no hoper had invaded my space.

At work we've been talking about this - and reckon if you caught a burglar in your home you could in theory kill them and just dump them out in the street - no one knows where these people were and why would the police suspect you if this person was just found killed in the street?
