Bollocks!

I think firing golf balls at him is hilarious

The guy that took the drums down was watching Blaine on TV and thought is was boring so he took his drums down to liven things up.

The eggs - well the prick has put himself in the equivalent of the stocks so why not chuck things at him.

An American in London looking like a loon at a time when pretty much most of the world thinks what the USA represents isn't good news...hmmmm, lets think about this....yes, I think I'll go down later and join in the fun.

The point is though tedebear that it is not what he is doing or his reasons-it's about a load of piss heads and idiots giving the world a display of our morons doing what they do best. And that's the perception people around the world have of British society.

Ok, stick him in the middle of Madrid, Paris or Berlin and everyone would just stare in amazement and offer words of encouragement? Rubbish.

Yes I can see your point Brian - the idiots who want to object to it are obviously making it onto TV the world around, and so the British public are all tarred with the same brush....

I know for a fact what my parents think of English football - as all they see on the tv in Australia is the thugs who make the evening news....

It is sad - but as long as we realize that they can't tar the entire population with their stupid antics then we're ok....

I feel very strongly that this shit he is getting is just a thin end of the wedge. These morons are all over the place. We are a laughing stock across the world, noone wants us to in their country, our football team could be kicked out of Euro 2004, we are hated in the resorts across the world.

Do you think this is acceptable ?.

I agree with Gareth. I think he is a complete and utter prat. He does this kind of thing as he is not all there.

However, no-one deserves this treatment. I am embarrassed for all the people who throw things at him.

This is a different debate. I agree with you about our yob culture. However, this whole Blaine thing is a tenuous link.

I'm no yob, but I'll go down and keep him awake.

If your objective was to start a debate on yob culture then I think you chose the wrong subject.

I really dont think anybody give a flying f*** what hes doing really, the only possible good that can come out of it is highlighting the fact that millions of people have to go days without food as part of life, not because there some wierdo publicity seeking sceptic tank

hes a good magician sure, Ive seen some really good stuff, but this is downright ludicrous.

what he's doing, where he's doing it, and why he's doing it is all wrong, I sincerely hope he fails.

I thought the golfer having a pop off tower bridge was bloody hillarious. If it wasnt such a complete waste of time and money I'd go up and have a pop myself (knowing full well my golf is so crap I wouldnt hit)

if he didnt want the publicity, and attention, not to say the additional challenge, why the feck did he decide to do it where he is. over a pit of crocodiles with a string base to his tank would have been better:lolol:

Not sure why we needed a separate thread on this, but either way there's quite a bit of an over-reaction here.

We only have a reputation as yobs because of the football, which I think is undeserved compared to other national fans - Turkey, Germany, Dutch, Russia, Italy, Argentina are all worse than us now. I haven't seen what's going on with David Blaine, but it sounds like a bit of harmless fun to me.

Don't give me this plucky Yank going without food bollocks. He knows exactly what he's doing- it's his job. He's an unbelievable magician, but these stunts are getting a bit dull. Standing on a pole in New York - great. What has that achieved? I'm all for smashing golf balls at him, & banging a drum. It livens up what is otherwise a dull spectacle

Took the words out of my mouth. I am also no yob, but i just think the abuse Blaine is getting is just funny, and has no link to football/holiday violence.

Most of the people giving him stick are probably just office boys like you and me out on the piss.

So you and the lads from the office out on the piss, giving him abuse is nothing to do with holiday loutish behaviour or football violence?

Let me think on that one!?!?!?!?!

was chatting to my mate about this yesterday, I mentioned it wont be long before some kids or right twat gets a couple of fireworks and fires them at his box...then they will take him down for safety mesures, golf balls are alrigth as they wont do any harm and even a paintball gun would be funny. But fireworks would be a no no.

Stumpy - I feel you are incorrect if you think our yob culture is only related to football. We are hated all over the world for our crap behaviour in holiday resorts as well. Just walk through a city centre at closing time and you may realise its not just related to football and this event has shown up all the muppets and pissheads we have in this country.

Bring him down and call off the stunt is what I say as the adverse publicity this country is getting on an already terrible reputation can only get worse.

I thought for a moment there someone was comparing some people humourously throwing eggs at one of the most self-absorbed men on the planet, with the potential activities of racist hooligans in Portugal. I must have been dreaming, no-one could have said that.

Personally I think the way we treat Blaine - and other celebrities - shows a lot of whats best about this country. We don't just automatically swallow all the PR guff and spin about people, and make our own minds up. It's called having a mind of your own, and not being overly deferential to people just because they're famous.

Er, no.

My point is that I personally would not go and fight at a football match or cause havoc in some seedy foriegn resort.

But i would laugh at people smashing golf balls at some CLOWN who has opened himself up for public ridicule in a very cynical society.

The stupid fact of the matter is that what gets reported the world over is the odd ball behaviour of a minority - whether its making fun of David Blaine, thuggish behaviour at the football, travelling away fans etc. and thats the point of this thread...

I'm sure you all think as an Australian I drink Fosters, have a toilet beside my sofa and wear thongs and a singlet every day...I probably say g'day mate about 10 times a day and everyone to me is a gallah!! Is that the truth?? no - not by half.... but thats what you see on tv so most of you believe....

Shame really - but its the way the world of new reporting goes....

As long as we know who we really are - then who cares what the rest think??
