Maybe everybody should read my post more carefully.

Nobody has moaned about Blackwell for the last 10 months until it is announced that he won't be fit for the 'start' of the season.

He is training again and stepping up his training. There is no reason why he shouldn't regain his full fitness.

The club physio and McGhee are not fools and will know if a player is capable of playing again.

Perhaps we should have a bit of faith in their judgements?

OK... but if MM and the club medical staff think there is little chance of him recovering - and let's face it, he has had plenty of time to recover now (and has been paid under a contract he had originally failed to sign, since he was hoping for other offers) - then it is time to let him go...

The club comes first... we cannot carry any player... one season of paying his wages without him playing is generous enough for a poverty-stricken club like ours, IMHO...

Time to offload... not harsh, totally fair in the circumstances...

I do not think anybody is doubting the wisdom of MM or the staff at the club but equally I am sure that they are suprised by his appareny set back, which must raise concerns about his future! Also insurance companies are renowned for looking for a way out of a settlement and may argue that he wasn't playing for us at the time of his injury as he was out of contract.

He's been given a short term contract to prove his fitness. I think he will (quite rightly) be released at the end of it.

He's 35 years old now ... it may well be that his pro' days are finishing. I hope he recovers. He did a very good job for us the season before last.
I just hope Simon Rodger is fully fit ... because we really missed him last term

That didn't take long did it

I think the main gripe is that we have had to pay the wages of a player who wasn't prepared to put pen to paper last pre season as he was waiting for a better offer to come along. However the club, well actually coppell who was possibly doing an old mate a favour and probably knew he would be off in a couple of months anyway, gives him a contract AFTER he was injured.

Whilst this was extremely commendable of the club was it really in the club's best interests given the age of the player and our financial position ?.

Just saying have a bit of faith all the time isn't good enough sometimes

correct :dunce: I should have said allowed him to sign the contract after the injury, however the injury should have been sufficient grounds for the club to withdraw the offer.

You can picture the scene of blackwell in hospital and coppell visiting with the grapes saying 'quick sign this before it's too f***ing late'

Hang on a minute, how the hell did Coppell know that he would be off within 2 months of the season, back in August. Roeder did not get the push until September, which then cause the chain of events (and allegded lack of persuasion from the board to keep Coppell) that lead to Reading come sniffing for our manager. There is no way during pre season that Coppell knew he was going. Thank you for the most stupid statement of the day so far.

I can see the logic of offering him a contract given his experience at playing at a higher level.

But he's 2 years older than the last time we were in division 1 and cruciate ligaments are funny things.

Fit or not I'm not convince he's worth any more than a 3 month deal or a rolling contract.

MM is a canny man, and given the current state of football it may be the best offer Blackwell is going to get.
