Let's be honest, they're never coming back are they?

Around 12 months out injured apiece, I can't see either of them playing another game for us.

I'd love to be proved wrong though so please tell me I'm an ill-informed, miserable bastard.

Rodger will be OK, Blackwell looks more serious.

I can see Rodger back around two weeks into the season.

If not, we should get rid of them both. We are not runing a charity at the end of the day.

Blackwell has been back to see the specialist but is making slight progress.

Rodger is practically ready and may even play in a friendly.

Good news Yorkie. I'd like to see both of them play for us again but we can't afford to wait forever.

I agree but when all is said and done, they both got their injuries at work and should be covered by the 'firm' until they are right.

The docs obviously think they both have a chance of playing a professional game again or else they would have advised the club to retire them.

Blackwell was out of contract last season when he did his cruciate ligament training. He had been offered a year by Coppel and the club said they would stand by him.

Rodger signed his contract and did his cruciate ligament in a tackle by Southgate at Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup so officially he is out of contract now.

I presume the club or the player have some sort of insurance to cover this sort of long term injury?

According to Teletext Blackwell has had a setback on the cruciate. Both these players are over 30 but if fit could do well. I'm not so sure though.

The defence is not a pressing problem, we can be patient for Blackwell, but McGhee's pressing task is to sort out the right midfield blend among a number of possible options for the bigger demands of the Championship, and he needs the option of Rodger back ASAP. It is great news that we are almost there with him. Sub for Cambridge game maybe?

In all honesty it's best to forget about Blackwell. Too injury prone and will take a long while for injury to heal.
Rodger would be useful if he could return but may be liable to be the odd injury too. Bolster a adodgy midfield.

With Blackwell leaving it would enable us to free up some more money for signings we are not going to make.....:shootself
