Blackburn Rovers - a very public joke

I always regarded Blackburn Rovers as a proper club, with decent fans with a pretty good ground in a traditional football town.

Its just a shame their owners are a very public joke. I feel sorry for their handful of fans who are rightly gutted at what has been done to their club by owners whose primary aim is just to raise their business profile in India and are using Blackburn Rovers to do it.

In their very dull programme from last night's game they reported with great joy how their shirt sponsors, Probiz, who had previously agreed to extend their shirt sponsorship deal until the end of the month, had now agreed to remain until the end of the season!

Who has a shirt sponsorship deal month by month?

The Blackburn fans I spoke to in the working mens club beforehand are sick of the ridicule that their club is being held up to and were embarrassed at what a shambles it is. But they accept that there is simply nothing they can do about it.

I sympathise. :( Venky's Out !

No they weren't. They were ambling along in mid table under Alladyce until Kean and his agent (who also happened to be Venky's football advisor) engineered his removal. The team subsequently dropped to 15th having to win their last game to stay up. The following season under the same manager they were relegated.

That following season is this season, where they were top three (having been top for a couple of weeks and looking good to bounce back up) when Kean left due to fan pressure. They then dropped down the championship table.

EDIT: There are plenty of reasons to criticise the club's owners, to defend the fans pressuring kean to leave, but his performance/results in the championship this season is not one of them.

Funny, for the last 15 years I've regarded them as a small-town team with ideas above their station thanks to a benefactor buying them the league title in 1995.

Oops misread it - thought he was talking bout Premiership. Kean took charge of Blackburn in December 2010 and it was downhill from there irrespective of where they were in the Championship this season. Berg was an even bigger cock up. Interestingly I read recently that Appleton was taken on by the Directors working in England without the knowledge of Shebby Singh, the Venky's current representative in this country. Bizarre set up to say the least.

Shows how uneducated they are... we are a city

You should have heard the geographically incorrect racism directed at one of our fans after the game, (alongside the standard homophobic abuse of course). Peasants.

I'm sure they have reasonable and intelligent fans too, but their club has been a laughing stock for a long time now.

I found the Burnley fans to be equally unpleasant. Funny because the Blackpool fans I met up there were all top blokes, very interested in our new stadium and unless anyone found differently, did not milk the fact they had just beaten us. I am of course referring to last season. Having done Turf Moor and Bloomfield Road, I didn't go to either this season. I got as far as Wakefield on the way to Ewood Park on 22 December, but couldn't make Tuesday night.

I worked in Spain for a developer who sent me back to London to a conference run by Probiz (Blackburns shirt sponsor) for their clients who are accountants. It was basically them selling their "products" which as far as I could gather was one guy who had devised a system for accountants to operate under one banner & in turn sell their clients off plan property. It just came across as a bad, sad & almost mad! It seems like a good fit all in all!
