I've got to buy the junior red star's new boots for coming season this week, and being somewhat old school i've refused to buy them coloured boots in the past.

I give it the " you have to be a bit special to wear pink boots " line, to which they come back with " Charlie's shit and he's got a pair "...... They have me bang to rights.

Do i stick to my principles or move with the times.

Stick to Your principles. Boots should only be black. If you do cave in to go away from black, it has to be plain white.

I have to buy my daughter her first pair of footie boots this week - she is starting after school club with Albion in the Community. I haven't got a clue what to get her?

Last season they both had adidas preditor, a really good boot. You're right i've got to be strong about this.

Pink boots this season, shopping in St james street in 10 years time.

My son seems to have ended up with 3 pairs - one with laces and moulded studs, one with velcro straps and vicious metal studs, and an astroturf pair.

Well with that kind of logic, I'm surprised you're so keen on getting them black boots. I take it you'll be quite happy when they turn into Yardies within the next decade?

All black, all white, or black & white. Anything lime green, or purple, or silver and orange, is inviting a 'robust' challenge IMO.

Edit: I should point out that there are actually very few one-colour boots around anymore, so perhaps 'mostly black, mostly white, or black & white' is a better idea. I realised as I hit submit that my boots are black with yellow trim so I was sort of a hypocrite.:annoyed:

All black boots are very hard to find. For example the all black Adidas Predators are only sold online, and it's a nightmare to find your own size. I brought a pair of Adidas World Cup's two years ago, for £65.. now they're £90!

If you want black boots, go to Sports Direct in town and look at the Adidas AdiPure on the 'random' selection of boots on the left hand side of the wall. They have some all black ones there that are around £60, I've had a pair for a year and they're brilliant

Sounds like your kids about 8-11. Just get them the coloured boots so they fit in with their mates. What's the point of spending a fair whack on boots if your kids don't love them?

FWIW anyone over ~13 I highly recommend Copa Mundials too.

It was a tongue firmly in cheek comment - I'd rather them play for 4 poofs and a piano than them turn into yardies.

You allow your young son to swear ???

Non professional players only were fancy coloured boots to distract other away from the fact they are shit.

Jesus!! no i don't allow my kids to swear, but a after a season sitting in the north stand, their swearing has come on leaps and bounds.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere at Manchester United one of Fergie's rules is that all young players HAVE to wear black boots until they make it into the first team.

Certainly the case at Brighton (apart from DS/First team)

Whatever makes the kid feel 'flair'.
Yoofs put a lot on stuff like this, and you dont want them feelling inferior because of unlucky boots.
Get them the flash pair and theyll dance past defences and welt the ball into enemy hearts with alacrity

Liam Dickinson wore fancy boots and he was shite. Few were fooled though, but i do believe he got an easier time from the crowd because we were waiting for the boots to do something useful in a forward position.
Sadly he was never where he was meant to be...but i dont blame his boots still.

As a coach I generally say...

If you're a defender, centre midfielder or keeper then you need the added protection of leather.

If you're a winger or a player which relies on pace then the synthetic boots are fine, as they are for players aged 10 and under.

I don't like blades as they are responsible for alot of ligament injuries and I also say that metal studs aren't needed.

I'd always recommend a pair of Adidas adipure or heritage, Nike tiempro, and umbro or puma which are all available in black and white and with round multi ground studs.
