I like WBG, but I don't think we can say with any certainty that he would have made a particularly noticeable difference in our midfield this year. Ayari has generally been good, Baleba undroppable and Jack, steady. Besides a few niche circumstances or off games, where would he have fit in and made a difference?

Congrats to him for his league title - i haven't watched napoli this year, but from articles and reports, it seems like he deserves his success and is thought of very highly in italy now as well as in Brighton and Scotland. Good for him, especially after that stalking malarkey. I hope it continues (success, not stalking!).

Possibly Fab’s first error?….
Gilmour has said it was his decision and that he pushed hard for it. I think the club, to a degree reluctantly, parted ways because we already had some depth there with Ayari making strides and Hinshelwood both likely to challenge Gilmour for a position.
It took him until very recently to break into the Napoli starting line up. I’m not sure he’d have been anywhere near a guaranteed starter here had he stayed - much like last season.
So yes - well done Billy.
But a mistake to let him go? Probably not.

15% of those Matt O'Riley minutes were for Celtic! Not such a like-for-like comparison as all that!
Not when you only compare their Napoli and Brighton minutes respectively.

Latest figures show Billy Gilmour (all competitions) 1354, Matt O'Riley (all competitions but not including playing monkey tennis) 1024. pin it how you like, and it's not a like for like comparison anyway, but wee Billy's doing alright. 12 of his appearances (I believe) have been starts, and he's playing more and more regularly as the season goes on. His manager speaks highly of him too.
Started today, and made an assist. Never mind - you don't rate him, and I do. I guess you rate O'Riley.....................

Matt O'Riley has played only 100 minutes less than Gilmour managed for Napoli in 6 less appearances.

I'd call that a bench player.

He mainly played towards the second half of the season but in the end he was pretty critical for them because he came in when Anguissa got injured, stayed in the team for a bit and then came back in again when Lobokta got injured. The number of minutes played were less important than how he ended up being used.

I thought we would miss him but then two centre mids Baleba and Ayari became our most improved players of the season. I wouldn’t swap either of them for Billy. Reckon we’d give Napoli a good game
