Makes no sense. Why didn’t they just loan him out to another club rather than sell them ?

Apparently Gilmour wasn't keen on another loan. Maybe it would have been different if he had the opportunity to go on loan to Brighton - but as Colwill had already moved from Chelsea to Brighton on a loan deal, the rules wouldn't allow that to happen.

Still makes no sense if Boehly knew it was going to happen, you’d just tell him to see what happens

This is impressively daft.

Seems like there are a couple of trolls making up shit and a massive credulous audience of UFO-spotters, anti-vaxxers and the like, lapping it all up like it were the best trifle ever

Agree with that but Boehly didn't know what was going to happen. There's a handful of strange people who think Boehly decided in July or August to sack Tuchel and appoint Potter. None of them have been able to provide a reasonable answer to why Boehly in that case didn't sack Tuchel immediatly and instead provided him with like hundreds of millions of pounds to spend.

Well the article does suggest Boehly was trying to subtlety suggest Gilmour stays because things might change but he wanted to go. So it was at least in Boehly mind end of the window.

And Chelsea had to spend hundreds of millions due to the players that left

Absolutely it was in his mind, he quite obviously didn't like Tuchel.

Sure, they had to spend money but no one forced Boehly to sign players Tuchel requested, or to involve Tuchel in the transfer process. While the thoughts of sacking the German wanker were certainly there, it is also quite obvious that no decision had been made at that point.

The Boehly comment about BG could probably be seen in many ways - "hold out, GP is on his way" is one intepretation, "hold out - moany Tommy might not be here forever" is another.

Obviously we'll never know what was exactly in his mind but I'd expect a combination of both. "Hold on Tuchel will be sacked soon and hopefully Potter is incoming" because sure as my dogs shit is brown, Boehly at least had his eye on Potter as his replacement. Wether he tapped up Potter or not is pure conjecture, that he had his eyes on him can be assumed pretty convincingly.

As for splashing the cash, it's all part of the sport. Got to appease the fans. Got to prove a point. Got to get quality players in for whoever is the manager and so on. If he doesn't buy Tuchels players, then whose? As he sacked all the other backroom staff and appointed himself as DofF, which he knows SFA about

Such a shame that football is no longer 22 people kicking a ball about.

Some say that the biggest mistake was the invention of the wheel, but I am still questioning why we came down from the trees.

While some question Gilmour feeling somewhat disappointed blah blah, spare a thought for Alzate who appeared to be "frozen out" going on loan just as Potter was exiting the door.

We as fans feel our club has been ripped apart and so on. The players will take it in their stride. Some will be disappointed some will see as a chance to shine for a new boss. The day to day training will remain the same.

Alzate was named as a sub for the leicester game, was he not?

EDIT: sorry, just seen he went to liege on friday

Once this all settles down it could well turn out to be good move for Gilmour, with the funds available to Chelsea he could have ended up as their Alzate if he’d stayed. Absolutely no guarantee he’d have been picked by Potter as a first team player at Chelsea.

His first team chances are still better here

No need to for Potter to keep bringing through the kids now, the stakes have gone up dramatically for him as has the spending power.

I do not believe Chelsea and their fans have lowered their sights below top four this season.

Yes, but this model presupposes that you can pay for players who will fit in a side from day one. The old Liverpool model was to buy and stick them into the reserves for a season at least. I liked what was happening at Brighton and I suspect Potter will find such a change in model both difficult and perhaps less rewarding (other than the stash in his bank account).

Still trying to find from this thread out how Billy Boy singed his contract - was he smoking, sitting in front of a fire?
