Technically I didn't win this but in the grand national last year i won £55.

Rang my dad up and told him to put a fiver on whoever A.P. McCoy was riding. At the time it was 20-1 but by the time he got to the bookies it had gone down to 10-1 :(

I know of one famous bookies who take a very dim view of their managers having to pay out large sums (ie punters winning) even though said bets have to be phoned though and accepted by head office.

Having a shop which doesn't make it's figures, which can be affected by large payouts, can lead to disiplinary action.

when Lammtarra won the derby in 95, i was lucky enough to get a tip about it 5 weeks before and got it at 33-1, on the day it went off at 14's, it romped home and I was 550 quid better off. The same night I got 4 numbers on the lottery and won £131!!

Baracouda 9/4
Best Mate 13/8
Kingscliffe 11/4
La Landiere 5/4

£10 Acca - Paid £700+
Also had 3 of them in a £5 patent for another £200+. Cleaned out the Coral in Surrey St by the station. The bloke after me was told they didn't have the £50 needed to pay him! I did apologise to him.

Managed a couple of £450 wins this year, backed Ballabriggs @25/1 & 20/1 for the National, and had a £10 double at Cheltenham, Hurricane Fly @ 5/1 with Long Run @ 13/2. I was on course watching the Gold Cup thought my heart was going to smash out of my chest.

Roll on winter, get shot of this flat rubbish!

A good bookie would lay off potential big lossess. If he isn't then he probably isn't a very good bookie
