Certainly a strange outcome. That man is an embarassment to the species. And he was so modest on being told. "Not bad, eh, me being above Elvis..." f*** off you little tosser.

And on another subject, I thought it was a bit odd that while all the others in the chart had little interviews with journos, producers, and fellow artists, Elton John had a critical appraisal (quite positive, strangely) from, err, his partner David Furnish. Why didn't they go the whole hog and just interview everyone else's wife. "My husband's really talented." That would have been compelling TV.

Liked the Nicey sign-off, though.

"You can see me next planting bulbs to Bachmann Turner Overdrive on the Shrubbery Channel."

I don't think it was 'more records', as the Beatles were above her. I think it was 'more top 10 singles', which presumably gives some indication of how the Beatles released less singles but they all sold shitloads.

Is the full list posted up anywhere as i missed most of the show?

As per previous posters i would not attach too much importance to singles sales.

Maybe it proves that we are a nation of poor taste

it proves that grannies and soppy oldies are a big buying demographic when they become aroused by such as Ken Dodd, Clive Dunn, and Britain's answer to Rick Springfield; Cliff Pilchard.

tony blackburn is partly to blame, but Jimmy Young must shoulder most of the responsibility.

...but does this list include the last few years I wonder? If is the last 50 years then I guess it would be from 1953 to 2003, but didn't they start the list in 1952? In which case perhaps they didn't include the recent Number One and Number Five hits for Elvis - A Little Less Conversation and Rubberneckin'?

If they didn't then maybe the list is a little wrong and Elvis is further up than number 3?

The scariest thing BY FAR about this list was the fact that, placed nicely in the top 20 best selling artists EVER in the UK, was (at about 17 or 18)......

Shakin Stevens.

Now I bet if you were asked to name 20 massive selling artists in the UK, most people could come up with 15 or so- the Beatles, Cliff, Elvis, the Stones, Madonna, Michael Jackson, ABBA, Slade etc. Even Boney M at a stretch.

But Shakin Stevens?? Surely he wasn't that big?

Anyone on here care to own up to buying a record by the Welsh Elvis?
