I would have to say Sheffield Wednesday big stadium massive support, Even with Falmer we could not hope to touch them on that score.

Then QPR, Bristol City and Ourselves.

Good observation, but QPR???

If we carry on thinking along those lines we'll be forever small.

Don't get the qpr thing - they've had a better recent history (the last 15 years or so), but we would match their crowds given the opportunity.

Sheff Wed are a level above al the other clubs in div 2. ITs the size club we shoudl be aspiring to be when we get falmer.

THIRD BIGGEST???

not bad we are the third biggest club in the second (the old third) division...

To be honest, I have no problem admitting we're probably smaller than QPR, but I reckon we're bigger than Bristol City. 3rd biggest sounds about right.

True, but I'd still imagine BC to be a bigger club potentially than QPR.

Isn't Bristol the 3rd largest city in the country or something? I can't see QPR ever attaining status much higher than a Norwich/Ipswich/Coventry sized club, whichever division they're in.

No disrespect intended, I'd settle for that, although preferably in the Premiership!

Bristol C (should be)
Brighton
Plymouth

Who else is there? Oldham used to be good but are a small team. As did Swindon Tranmere and Blackpoo.

how can we call ourselves a massive club when 'if ' falmer
is built the capacity will only be 22,000.we need at least 30,000
to keep pace in the premier if we ever make it there !!!!

TOP POST.

WE ARE EQUIVALENT IN POPULATION TO THE LIKES OF MIDDLESBOROUGH, LEICESTER, SUNDERLAND, NOTTINGHAM, DERBY, BIGGER IN POPULATION THAN BLACKBURN, BOLTON. ALL OF THESE BUT BOLTON HAVE A STADIUM ABOVE 30,000. I MAY ALSO BE WRONG OVER BOLTON.

ME THINKS WE WILL ALWAYS BE A FIRST OR SECOND DIVISION SIDE. UNLESS WE PLAN FOR A LARGER, UNLESS WE ARE BUT WE NOT TELLING THE PROTESTERS TO FALMER!!!!!

I think keeping feet firmly on the ground is step one.

If you want big places, then Reading, Bristol, and even Leicester are bigger than Brighton. In terms of conurbation you can put Portsmouth in that too, although then Brighton becomes bigger.

You've got plenty of possibilities with Sussex having quite a lot of people... but to put things into perspective, don't expect them all to be Brighton fans. Some live too close to London. We have a catchment area of 11,000,000 within 25 minutes travel, y'know, but at least 10,000,000 of them are going to support London teams, aren't they? Remember that you are the same. We both come from footballing places (we've produced many of England's football pros and winning youth teams), and have potential. But potential it must remain.

Pretty much any of us - Reading, Brighton, Pompey, Southampton, Bristol City, Cardiff City - could get 30,000 crowds in the Premiership... but we're not there at the moment. So build on the present with the future in mind, and then look for expansion when possible. Falmer will be able to be expanded given success, but you've got to get decent crowds at Falmer in Division 1/2 first, and if you get over 15,000 in Division Two then I'll consider you a decent-sized club.

There's every chance of being ahead of Bolton, Blackburn etc, but they now have established fanbases and it isn't going to happen overnight with success. Though if its any consolation, only 5 years ago, Pompey had attendances of 9,000 at home, and now they could probably fill 30,000 no problem. As much as you and I may hate them (and I do), they are the yardstick and both Reading and Brighton are no different to them.

Just remember who has the best average attendance (home and away) for a Division Two club in the last 20 years bar Man City ;)

(Soon to be put into 3rd place by Sheffield Wednesday this year)

Sheffield Wednesday by a long way, but going on away fans, I'd say we easily match QPR, though you have to remember that QPR's catchment area is very small as they have two other clubs in the same borough. 15,000 for Boxing Day in Division Two is not bad. Bristol City as goring and edna say have never fulfilled their potential, and I never understand why Plymouth always get such small crowds, given that they have the whole of Cornwall to draw on. I suppose we are about the third largest.
