Hello everyone, I haven't been on the board much the last few days as last Friday after the Uncle Buck, Sheebo and Fatboy Incident* I came home to find that my computer had crashed and it didn't recognise the C: drive any more...

It looks like I've lost everything :(

Unless I can retrieve something I'll have to start pretty much from scratch...

*Who "nose" what happened (lol)

Oh dear I am having flashbacks from last night. I remember you moaning that you had lost all your essays, photos and porn.

You were quite happy when I told you your MSN contact list was safe.

I don't know what you did to me after I passed out last night but I feel like shit today.

The bios recognises there is a hard drive but there is no way to get into C: or D:.

It's down to the partitions and Master Boot Record and scary stuff like that...

I shall return.

One day.

Connect up the HD into a mates computer as a second device (ie leave their C: in place) and see if you can now read the contents. If you can, its probably as you say, the MBR. So find some tool on the internet to recover/rebuild/repair it. Or you might like to just re-install the OS which, as long as you dont allow it to format, should leave everything intact

If you still cant see the data from the other machine, then its a bit more screwed. Try to get hold of a hacked version of some software called EasyRecovery (iirc). this will read through the disk and should show all the file that are/where there and allow you to recover everything (the hacked version will allow you to actully copy/move files, while unhacked unlicenced wont).

If that doesnt work... well frankly, your up a smell creek without any propulsion.

wait, calm down and listen.

you should always state OS/HD/MEM etc when stating problems.

If your on XP or NT your NTLDR file is pointing to an incorrect boot partition. NTLDR is what loads the OS.

Dont be a mug and post these things on annoyances.org or computing.net not on a 2nd div football msg board.

it's been boring without a computer for the last three weeks but my new hard drives have arrived so I should be back online tomorrow.

Normal service will be resumed shortly. :clap2:

Does anyone know of any company that can repair hard drives where the electronics have failed?

Life without NSC is boring. Fatboy, you missed a good night last night. Nice eye candy. Jodie Marsh was at the HC last week and I missed her. D'oh.

We deal with a company that will repair a HD.

I will try and see if I can find the address.
