What are you defining as pop given that I wouldnt class all of your selection as pop.

In what way are any of them not Pop? About as pop as pop can get if you ask me.

For me, pop music is music we've all heard because we've been subjected to it at some point or another whether we like it or not. Proper music on the other hand usually takes some seeking out, unfortunately.

That's not to say I don't think there has been some cracking good pop tunes btw, lest you think I'm just some sort of music snob.

TOTP theme tune for many a year. Clearly firmly in the rock/pop genre pop pickers

Anyway, we'll never agree if you really think Bankrobber by The Clash is more dub than pop.

1980 or 1981. Siouxie and The Banshees, Simple Minds, The jam etc on top of the pops with over 10 million viewers. Pop has fragmented since, and even the likes of me, an old git, has an iPod with thousands of tracks on it, and access to any download for free of the inernet. Bands make money only from touring. Different times . . . .

The Clash? Pop?

This is not pop, even in later years I would never classify the Clash as pop

agreed, got a bit hasty and didn't read the title properly

any band that produced London's Burning & White Riot could never be considered 'Pop'

Pop is obviously short for Popular,so anyone could be considered that I guess

but 'Pop' is really Abba,Showaddywaddy,Rubettes and alike in it's purist form

I've just picked 1998 as I was 11. I love listening to the absolute CHEESE FEST mixed with the Britpop of my youth. Sure I'm biased but it was bliss.

A year where Aqua had 2 number ones :lolol:

1978-1981. There's arguments for all three. But ultimately all this is an age thing.
