Best

Wish it could be Xmas every Day - Wizzard.

Roy Wood genius, still sounds good after over 30 years. especially that bit at the end with the jungle bells and little Girl solo's with

"When the snowman brings the snow" still sends shivers down my spine today.

Worst

That Bruce Springsten effort Santa Claus is coming to Town:censored: he shouts through the whole record

Likes - Slade, Wizzard, Mudd, Wham, Pogues/Kirsty McColl, SHakin' Stevens

Hates - Paul McCartney, Cliffs Melenium prayer shite, any kiddies crap and bloody Maria Carey
For some reason I quite like that Mariah Carey effort !! may have something to do with her flitting around with a low cut santa claus top on in the video :)

Perry, sorry have to disagree about Mud ! very poor Elvis impersonation and that bit at the end that goes "merry xmas darlin, wherever you are...........Eeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuukkkkk !!

Reading yesterday that Jonah Louie has lived comfortably on the profits of 'Stop the Cavalry' ever since. That is some feat for a single record! Although as he points out, it isn't an xmas record, just happens to have the line "Wish I was at home for Christmas" which is why it always gets plenty of x-mas exposure.

It should also be noted that it has christmassy type bells being played at that juncture

That is very true, apparently the producer persuaded him to put them on the record.

It was also released at Xmas 1980

For me and my Dad Christmas hasn't started until we hear the bugle that announces the start of "Stop the Cavalry". For Jonah Louie this really is the most wonderful time of the year, f*** knows what else he does for the rest of the year.

He had a second single, "You'll always find me in the kitchen at parties'' or some other terrible name like that. But I doubt it brings in much royalties anymore :lolol:

Best: All I Want For Xmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit - Half Man Half Biscuit

Worst: Summer Holiday - Cliff Richard & The Shadows. I mean, what were they thinking? First off the lyrics are totally inappropriate for the occasion. And then they went and released it at completely the wrong time of year, missing the Xmas no.1 slot by about 6 months. Useless tossers.
