I live in Greater Manchester, but would vote for Brighton in terms of Football Team, Cricket Team, Seaside, South Downs, Shopping, Beer, General Ambience, Access to Europe, plus the Manchester Accent (a la Oasis) is dreadful.

Manchesters main benefit is Rusholme (curries) and proximity to plenty of Away games, and Peak and Lake Districts.

Border country.East Preston.
You've missed inner London, such as Brixton/Tooting, they are a completely separate entity to what most would call "London",separated by culture/tastes/food/prices/entertainment.

Don't bother putting them on the poll though cos i'm not voting for them.

Nottingham is nice and has some blinding bars but i prefer Brighton, there is something special about living by the sea.

Best town for what in particular?

Brighton is a lovely place to live and all my friends want to move down here. It has a friendly, lassez-faire attitude and we also have the beach. We have the south downs, marina, cricket and football club, pavillion gardens, shopping, Edwardian houses, is clean, fresh air, plenty of bars and nightclubs....need I go on?

You've missed God's county too.Great swathes of Kent where you have places like Canterbury, the home of cricket and cider and it's the home Rupert the Bear and more pubs per sq mile than anywhere else. The girls are pretty rank though and nightclubs aren't allowed in the city walls.

I have live within 26 miles of Manchester for years, Liverpool is very run down.

I hate London and always have done.

I am making my way back to Brighton at long last

Point of order - why have you put town/city when they are all cities?

Are you a Brighton fan at all or an alias

GIVE YOUR REASONS?

1) Good balance of nightlife - Lots of cozy pubs, trendy bars, restaurants, clubs etc. All packed into one nice small space, so you don't have to travel 45 mins to a friend on the other side of town.
2) Nice mixture of people all getting along.
3) Clean sea air. I hate it when you go to London for just a day, and when you come home you're blowing black stuff out of your nose. Do people in London think that's normal???
4) Reasonable shopping for a 'city' of our size.

I'll be honest, on the downside -
1) Property prices are too high.
2) The stupid local council always knacker things up with roadworks on the main routes in summer. Don't the idiots realise we're a holiday resort? They never think logically about these things, and are bound to put some people off returning.
3) The West Pier. It's an eyesore. Let it go.
4) If we're a city, why are our local football team playing in a pub garden? SORT IT OUT!

I'll also admit, I think we're too small to be a city, but that doesn't stop us being a good 'town sized' city.

You obviously love Manchester, but other people will feel just as passionately about Brighton (& Hove actually), so let them have their say.

London - too vast and dirty.
Manchester - Only been a few times. Seemed nice enough.
Liverpool - never been there.

By the way, you missed Birmingham off the list.

Whatever. I've spent a lot of time in all those cities (except Manchester, though I have been a couple of times) and I know where I'd choose to live. London is absolutely top, which is why loads of NSCers live or have lived there. Unfortunately it is expensive. Brighton is quality too, you can even go to the Crystal Palace board and they'll tell you the same thing about the city of B&H.

Manchester has some nice cafes and has in the past had a quality club scene, but the fact is that it is dirty, it pisses down more than anywhere else in the country, and the locals have a massive chip on their shoulders about the South East.

Sounds dull.

On the plus side, most of Kent is within an hour's drive of Sussex.

The main reason that Manchester has a better centre than Leeds or Nottingham is down to the Arndale Centre being blown up.

I agree Leeds is run down and second rate although their club scene is 'supposed' to be good now. I wouldn't know but but I do know they are trying to advertise themselves as the 24 hour city now.

Apart from Harvey Nicks (out of my pirce range) opening up the rest of the shopping in Leeds is dreadful and I would rather shop in Sheffield
