Im getting a new one and knowing that there are a load of vinyl loving music fans on here, thought I would ask them where best to buy one at a reasonable price?

Richer sounds it is. I shall go tomorrow after I have been to the club shop to meet McGhee.

Good.

They keep their prices down by having really small shops you know.

Richer Sounds very often have better offers on the net. See what you like in the shop and then look it up online.

You lot think Richer Sounds is cheap?

They pulled out ofIreland because even the independent shops had them by the nuts. Peats was often 50-60% cheaper, and its an expensive shop.

If you see a price on the net, you can ring up and order it from the branch BUT make sure you take a printout of the web page with you so if the price goes up you can show them the offer. They usually honour the lower price.

If it were me I'd be looking for KEFS speakers (in the mid-range price, as these super-expensive ones are often hi-technology but no better sounding).

A quality tuntable with variable speeds that auto-returns the arm at finish of play, and perhaps a good Stanton cartridge.

The amp would be valve for me, but NAD seems quality otherwise.

Deck(s) would have to be Technics. Their parent company Panasonic as a close second.

Amp - NAD are OK, Denon also. Got a NAD myself, and a Denon minisystem

Speakers - Mission or Monitor, depending on what the music is. Classical stuff is richer on Monitor, electronic and rock on Mission.

From the amp to the speakers, ensure you're using oxygen free bi-wired cables.

If you're throwing a tuner and a CD deck into the mix Denon and Technics respectively.
