So. Wayne Rooney's scissor kick has been voted the best Premier League goal ever. BBC Sport - Wayne Rooney wins Premier League Goal of the 20 Seasons award

Given that the average age of NSC is probably a bit higher than the thousands of 15 years olds who voted in that poll, and given that these polls are an utter waste of time (every time Robbie Williams had an album in the top 10, the annual 'Greatest Album....Ever' awards in whatever muso mag you care to pick, invariably had him at number three or four), how about some clicks of some truly great goals of time past?

A quick YouTube search produced this (plus a Brighton one) from 85/86 - proper celebrations, proper shorts, proper hair - I bloody LOVE this era!!

It's pretty special, but I prefer Di Canio's and Bergkamp's.

Edit: Has anyone got a link to a video of the shortlist? I can't find it.

Bergkamp's was masterful - was it before or after his World Cup one against Argentina? Genius. Genius.

really? wouldnt even be in my top ten. its not even the best of genre, Les ferdinad iirc done a better one. nor probably Rooney's best for that matter. what about Le Tiss, Bergkampp. Henry, Cantona, each scored better goals each year. what about the McMannaman's solo run, or the Giggs follow up? bloody recencey effect, basically 18 years of goals ignored.

Sorry but hasn't to be Maradona's only "legitimate" goal against England in Mexico '86. This is why he is the most gifted footballer ever (if not honest!)

Edit- just noticed that looking for best PL goal ever. Durhhhh! So will go for Bergkamp v Leicester at Filbert St. Can't remember date

what genre the ball in the back of the net one? Not for me, yes it is, maybe, no, which one, not for me, he's too skinny, too hairy, Cisse goal was exceptional but it was yesterday is that to soon? 18yrs doesn't time fly.

Di Canio for me.

And for me. Unbelievable goal.

Wayne Rooney's goal against Manchester City is amazing, though. Alright, it comes off his shin. But it's an incredible moment.

Shearer vs Everton, Rooney vs Newcastle and Lampard vs Hull come straight to my mind when talking about best goals ever in the Premier League.

Has to be Bergkamp in my opinion. The combination of skill, technique and intelligence.

He really was sublime wasn't he. Then he repeated it in the WC.

Matt Le Tissier would have to be in that discussion somewhere. Many of his goals were works of art for Southampton.

Personally I think rooney's should be right up there. He had no other option, he couldn't control it or pass it back. The ability to get so much power and accuracy at the position he was in is phenomenal. Not to mention it was in the manchester derby.

trevor sinclair's overhead kick was very special but i think that was in the f.a cup? Tony Yeboah's goal for leeds was great, but i think beckhams halfway line goal was the best.

The Rooney goal doesn't work for me as best PL goal because it was a no pressure win-win situation. If it had gone clattering into the stands no-one would have blamed him. The Cisse goal would have been met with total derision if he'd missed.
