I think he played in the reserve match yesterday - and got injured...

Hart Seals Reserve Win

By Tim Dudding

A first half strike from Gary Hart gave Albion's reserve team a 1-0 win over QPR at Loftus Road this afternoon.

The Albion midfielder, who had just returned from a three-match suspension, captialised on a defensive error before the break to fire the Seagulls ahead.

Assistant manager Bob Booker, who took charge of the Albion side because reserve team coach Dean White is ill, was delighted with the performance.

"I'm very pleased," Booker told seagulls.co.uk. "We were totally committed, had a great attitude and we approached it in the right manner."

Booker explained to the players beforehand that suspensions to Danny Cullip and Adam Virgo this weekend meant there could be first team places available, and Albion's assistant manager was pleased with the response.

"Everyone's got something to prove. We've got two players suspended on Saturday so there are places up for grabs. They all had a go for me, so I'm really happy with them."

Goalkeeper Ben Roberts came off in the first half suffering from a sore hamstring.

Albion: Roberts (C May), El-Abd, G Elphick, Mayo, Jarrett, Hart, Budd, P Watson, Beck, Robinson (Rents), Molango. Subs not used: Piper, Gatting.

All the more reason to feel happy Kuipers remains fit.

As much as I like him BHAFC are yet again shelling out lots of money on a player not available for long amounts of time.

Hardly a help to our current financial plight.

Hardly a cause for panic, is it? Could happen to anyone in the course of a match.

Still Somewhere in Sussex!
What's the odd's of Roberts announcing he'll retire from the game this season?

I sincerely hope not, as we need two good goalkeepers fighting for the No.1 jersey!

Ben Roberts - time to go?

Without wishing to be too harsh on Roberts who, on his day, I think is a decent enough keeper, he simply picks up way too many injuries.
He must be one of the higher earners at the club and we can't afford to carry players - there is no way a keeper should be unavailable as often as he is.
Is it not time to cut our losses, pay up his contract and get in a cheaper deputy for Kuipers?
As was mentioned in a previous post, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he becomes yet another retiree come the end of the season.

Roberts is a good reserve. Remember last seasonn when we had the young lad from Fulham, Flitey, in when Kuipers and Roberts were injured. I do not think Flitney would do too well at this level and I have not seen Chris May play so lets keep Ben until we have something with potential or better. Last time in this div we had Petterson and he was pants, Beasent was ok though. At least we know Roberts is a great shot stopper I just pooh my pants when a deep cross comes in.

All power to the Dutchman

Let's not write him off too quickly... he is fantastic cover for the FDM when fit... I hope he gets this problem sorted... personally, I prefer Kuipers, but one of our strengths is that we have 2 great 'keepers...

who's panicking? yes it could happen to anyone, but it's more likely to happen to a player with a weakness. First half? I don't like the sound of it

Tend to agree with some of the earlier points raised. I think when he's fit he's a decent keeper to have, but I do have my doubts that he'll be offered a new contract if he hardly plays this season.

We need a decent number two granted, but can the club really afford to keep paying a player who's fitness/health is in real doubt.

I thought that Rodger and Blackwell would'nt make it back, but was somewhat surprised by Piercy's retirement. I fear Roberts may well end up going the same way as the afore mentioned two.

I feel we should cut our losses on this one.
