That feels a bit harsh.
I've never felt we were stuck in the same cycle as Leeds currently are, all the way through his tenure.

Sure that's how Ryan ended but unlike The Leeds, the position was strengthened from within and has now kicked on again.

A player who played under the Potter regime told me he was also heavily involved on the training ground.

Yes. I think Potter now has a full coaching “team” rather than just Benny and Bjorn. It does make me sad that our club legend will probably be picking up the cones for GP for a while. I think he’s better than that.

He was also our ‘attacking coach’ for some of the most barren spells of goal scoring in the PL.

Interestingly I saw that former goal keeper Lee Grant is the attacking coach at Ipswich this season, so there does seem to be some method behind the madness

So good at creating chances on the basis of knowing how defenders may react in a situation, but no idea how to actually finish the chance once created?

I wasn't suggesting Ben Roberts would rplace anyone - a job title and role would have to be made for him.

Part of me thinks I would happily have Roberts (& potentially Bruno) back here, so long as our current coaches were fine with it & had a genuine need for him. We'll never truly know what happened, but if it was a situation where he had little choice but to go, as he couldnt be guaranteed a place in RDZ's setup, then i'd be okay with a return. But the other part of me feels that although there's sentimental value there, it would be disrespectful to RDZ & his selected coaches to suggest they need the help of these extras. What might be more likely is that when we one day sadly lose RDZ and a new manager comes in Tony says to that new guy ''Do you have any need for a goalkeeping & first team coach that knows the club inside out?''.. if they're still unemployed by that time which they highly likely wont be.

I think that is very harsh on Roberts. Steele has shown whenever he stepped in for cup games he was a pretty decent keeper. What we are seeing now is a keeper brimming with confidence because he's playing regularly, something he never got before. You compare the Jason Steele we are seeing now to the one that Sunderland fans saw and the difference is night and day, a lot of that is down to the coaching Ben Roberts gave him over the near 4.5 years they were together here.

I don’t buy the ‘no job’ scenario. Do we really believe RDZ came in and said I really need to work with Andrew Crofts as a coach, give him a job please. Roberts maybe different as a specialist coach. But really they all saw an opportunity for a big pay day and took it
