My glorious part-time employers begin their title defence tonight away to the Thames Valley Tigers following last season's champoionship success. The team is very different from last season with only Yorick Williams and Andrew Alleyne returning from last season, though we have signed Ryan Huntley from Chester snd quite a lot of random college players I've never heard of. Also supposedly signing is 6'11 Ajou Deng, brother of Luol Deng who has been drafted at no.7 by the Chicago Bulls and will be a seriously good player. Bears are also playing in the FIBA Europe League this season.

A trip to Bracknell and the Thames Valley Tigers represents the opening game of the 2004/05 season for the current BBL Championship holders, Nick Nurse’s Brighton Bears.
The only side not to have a fixture last week, they travelled to Graveline in France for a friendly competition to further prepare themselves for the gruelling season ahead. Nick Nurse will have had time to prepare for the Tigers and will have his players focused on this weekends games. With a new look squad, including Tony Holley who signed from Thames Valley in the summer having spent a total of seven years there accross two spells, the Bears will no doubt want to be quick off the mark in their hunt for silverware. In addition the Bears have captured point guard Ryan Huntley from TCS Chester Jets and he and Yorrick Williams will make for an exciting backcourt combination.
As it’s the Bears’ first game, Thames Valley coach Paul James heads into the game with nothing from this season to go on, so he will be concentrating primarily on
ironing out the flaws he may have noticed in his team’s first two games and getting them ready.
“We’ve got to take care of our own business, improve on what we did last weekend. If we can take care of our own defense and rebounding then we’ve just got to make sure our guys perform offensively”.
“Brighton have brought back Yorrick Williams and Andrew Alleyne and they always play tough defense and are always well organised. We have started to play some really tough defense as well so hopefully we will be able to limit their scoring opportunities and take them off their offense”.
Coach James felt they had opportunities to win their season opener against London Towers and with improved rebounding and better execution offensively he can see the Tigers improving game on game.
“There’s always a bit of rivalry between Brighton and Thames Valley, hopefully we are going to have a full house at Bracknell and put on a good performance to get this win”
On another note, I have also made the University of Exeter basketball team for our first game tomorrow:dance:
