Talk on the radio from the organisers of The Open doing this deal as it means more cash will be spent on " Grass Roots " golf and " raising awareness of the sport..." yeah right. Only problem is, the real awareness of the sport will decline as it will reach fewer people. I bet the R&A committee can't believe their luck now.

A somewhat money orientated spectator event goes to the highest bidder, hardly a surprise is it? It's not as though they play it at Hill Barn or Tilgate Forest, so long as it's played at venues as St Andrews, Royal Lytham and Turnberry, they need the money to be able to afford to put the event on.
