I never normally think this, but how much better were ITV's commentary & summarising team yesterday than the BBC team we've seen so far?
I watched the Portugal game on Saturday, and half time was so bad, it was embarrassing. Hansen is always smug and talks over everyone until they shut up and listen to him. Ian Wright talked complete crap and kept being over familiar with the others, not to mention being dressed like he was heading for the pub. And why the hell has Peter Schmeichel EVER got a TV job? He's just appalling, sits on the fence the whole time and never, ever criticises goalkeepers, no matter how badly they f**k up.
"So Peter....the keeper should perhaps have done better than let that pea-roller through his legs in the first minute then?"
"well, no, I don't think so, what you have to understand is that the ball was moving a lot faster than it looks, plus it's the new ball with a particularly difficult shiny surface, which makes it swerve loads and means it's more difficult to catch, and then there's the notorious Faro evening breeze, which made the ball move in the air. And of course the right back should have cleared the ball, so, no, I don't think it's the keeper's fault".
Gordon Strachan and Peter Reid would have been a considerable improvement in the games they did, only they could barely get a word in edgeways because of Hansen, Lawrenson and Wright talking over them the whole time.
They are starting to make Andy Townsend on ITV look GOOD.
