It's not about double standards, it's about assessing each 'violation' of the rules on it's own.

One of the great things about NSC is it's flexibility and the relative lack of heavy moderation. The events of earlier this week mean that we have to be a bit more vigilant and jump on anything that might be (or might develop into) offensive behaviour. Sometimes that might seem a bit inconsistent but quite honestly, that's tough.

I'd rather have an NSC with a few little inconsistencies along the way, than nothing.

as someone who hardly posts on this site and has seen the events unfold over the last few days i really do need to ask a couple of questions

How is it right to ban someone for expressing the vile word in the same sentence as immigrants when you can say anything you like about celebrities and use whatever language you like??

If someone puts vile British national would they also receive a similar ban??

As a Jewish Brighton fan and season ticket holder for many years i am always amazed at what content is allowed on here but i also think that there is a whole can of worms being opened up with these new bannings and i hope that the rules will be uniformed and not just with regards to a racial matter?

There's a big difference between picking on a single person and generalising a whole race or religion.

To use your example, I am allow to write: "Katy Price is a vile human being" because it is true and in no way libelous.

I cannot use the same sentence to describe a religion however, as that would be out of order. It's not double standards

Erm, is it really true that Katie Price is a vile human being? I mean, it could easily be argued that she isn't. That's a subjective opinion of yours based on your own standards and your knowledge of her as a person. That doesn't make you right.

You're right that the same sentiments shouldn't be used to generalise about an entire race, religion etc.

Sorry, been stupidly busy with work this week so not had much time for NSC matters, which has been a bit unfortunate given goings-on.

Maybe I should have kept NSC 'off air' until such time as I could publish some very definitive guidelines, but I wanted the site back for people to use, so I took the decision to bring it back, hoping all (well, most) would be sensible about ongoing usage, despite obvious curiosity about the specific events of this week.

For the record: I hate people being banned from NSC - it genuinely makes my heart sink. I don't like NSC to be a place where some are shut out and not welcome. But if bannings have to be taken for the overall good of the community, then they have to be imposed. And you still have to go pretty far beyond the realms of common decency to merit a ban.

im interested because i read with interest what goes on at this site because i also share a passion for the Albion and indeed financially support the club with my company sponsorship and had a table for over 6 years as well as my season ticket in the south and then north stands but find it baffling the double standards with regards to what can and cant be said. as i stated earlier i am against any kind of abuse of any nature but i do feel they should be dealt with in the same manner
