Ok, I know it's a few years old now but I've recently seen the first 3 episodes of Band of Brothers. What a program, makes you realise what it was like being a soldier in WW2. Rather them than me.

they used Saving Private Ryan's team to make the program.

If anyone had the DVD set, can I borrow it?

I have never seem Shaving Ryan's Privates ((c) Steve Wright in the afternoon) but I waitched all of Band of Brothers and it was really, really impressive. It really scared the shit out of me and was by far the most realistic portrayal of war I have ever seen. It was funny to see all these British actors doing Yank accents, although I thought the acting was bloody good.

Just seen the forth. I still think it's absolutely fantastic. It does seem incredibly realistic. Not surprised that it's by the same crew as Private Ryan. Fantastic film. I did know it was a Speilberg/Hanks thing though.

I noticed the guy from Press Gang and Lock Stock but I didn't recognise any of the others.

Used the first 20 minutes of the Crossroads episode (the one with them running across the field) as a teaching aid last year. Excellent series, the fact they had to use the real life stories of the soldiers involved and couldn't use too much licence to deviate into sentimentalism which Private Ryan does makes it realistic. If you have the DVD and the zoom function you can play the spot the Tom Hanks cameo game. There are two, but the only one I've found is the episode when the French soldier shoots the Germans in the back of the head as regiment drives past. Frenh soldier is Hanks and one of the Germans being shot actually cannot stop laughing.

The guy who played Lipton is a former member of New Kids On The Block.

For a war film, I found "Band of Brothers" not a patch on "Das Boot" the subtitled extended version of the U-boat warfare film.
If you have not seen the latter, avoid the shortened dubbed version as it is not nearly as good as the full length one.

If "Reilly, Ace of Spies" gets a re-run on television, would like to see that one again as well. This is World War II era espionage and it has a realistic touch.
