No extra time?

It is a group match in the well known Final Third Development League Cup competition. For those who don't know their reserve team leagues from their elbow, the Final Third Development League used to be known as the Central League - it was the reserve team league for clubs based in the Midlands and the North of England (southern teams played in the Football Combination).

With the advent of development squads in recent years (and the Premier League clubs having their own reserve league), membership of these reserve team leagues diminished greatly - in season 2011-12, there were a whopping SIX teams in Albion's Combination division. That season, as it transpired, was the last for the Combination, effectively replaced by the Premier League's Professional Development League. However, the Central League struggles on, now being sponsored by Final Third Sports Media, and having expanded to become a nationwide competition (but still having only 22 teams, split into 3 divisions). These are the teams who failed to have a Category 1 or 2 academy rating.

The league has a cup competition. Why are Albion involved? I can only assume that it is to pad out the fixture list for the U-21s (because the club has only 22 Premier League U-21 fixtures). Albion are in Southern Group A, alongside AFC Wimbledon, Cambridge United, Gillingham, Luton Town and MK Dons.

Is he working his notice? Going to QPR and not sacked so like us ordinary bods might have to do a few weeks extra. Wonder if he is arguing the toss over how much holiday pay he is owed?

From the online Argus article about Balmy's return to the U-21s today:-

The Seagulls are negotiating compensation with Queens Park Rangers for outgoing coach Ireland, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Balmy has today signed a deal until the end of the season with Oxford United - Oxford United Sign Jeremy Balmy

The last news from an Albion perspective was on January 23rd, when the Argus reported that Albion's interest in Balmy was on hold until a successor was confirmed for QPR-bound U-21s coach Simon Ireland.
