After todays bombing of the UN headquarters it seems to me that the people do not want any help. Everyday a sodier dies, so I say withdraw and leave them to it, that is what they want it seems.

People will probably disagree with me on this one!

My Dad left "Camp Victory" in Baghdad (one of Saddam's palaces) about 2 hours ago. Shit scary stuff :(

Safe though... hopefully he'll stay in Basra for the rest of the tour.

The people don't want help. But without it they're facked. Its a no win situation.

Actually I think I've inadvertantly found the crux of the problem.

In Baghdad, he goes to an American base called "Camp Victory" and in Basra, the British base is called "OP ****234" or something. Too much bloody "hey, we're America" sort of bravado. :nono:

You have similar ideologies to Barry Hearn who suggested that Brighton should be kicked out of the League because of the actions of a tiny minority.

To be honest, I think it's probably best you stick to talking about football on here - Charlton if you really, really have to.

Errm, have you actually7 thought that for alot of people living there the war isnt actually over and they dont like us much? Oh, lets leave after killing a few odd thousand people and let Saddam reappear (possibly the only plus point in this whole shit affair is that hes not in charge any more) to take charge again.

hmmm thatd be clever wouldnt it?

The situation in Iraq is developing in exactly the way some of us predicted it would before the war started.

Bush and Blair must live with the consequences. They can't just run away now.

Exactly. You can't tell a country that you are going to come in and remove an evil dictatorship, and then bugger off back home and say "OK, your problem now".

Law and order will take a long while to restore. Saddam had law and order, but his oppression in other ways was the problem. If we can restore law and order to the way it was while in dictatorship, then our mission is done on that front.

Your problem, CAFC Matt, is that you think we are there to 'help'. We're not. A massive attack on a country is no way to 'help' its people. We are there to help the Americans. We're doing that really rather well.

Problem is, the Iraqis know that. Damn right they want us to get out - so would I, so would you, so would everyone on this board, I suspect.

I dont think we should get started on the whole 'why we are there debate' again but I do not think we should leave. if we leave now then the actions of those bombers has got what they wanted, much like if we gave in to al quaida or the real ira. We are, rightly or wrongly there for the duration and it is imperitive to stay until it is stable and sorted out otherwise we will be back to where we started with Saddam or worse back in charge and all the casualties etc will be for nothing.

Also, there are a lot of people who are NOT attacking our troops but these seem to be ignored in arguments. A lot of Iraqis DO want our help. Much like football fans being tarnished all as hooligans, the attacks are being carried out by a minority.
