A lot of muslim women were forbidden to learn let alone speak English by their husbands. Did I make that up ? Well if I didn't perhaps the many Asians (mainly Hindus and Sihks) did because that's what they told me.
Bear in mind that both Sikhs and Hindus have no time for muslims and they are both considered infidels every bit as much as anybody of European decent by muslims.
