I assume he was trying to get his arm out of the way, but misjudged the ball.

It was a rookie mistake that he will learn from.

The problem with having so many young players like that we do, is that they are prone to making silly mistakes.
If you’d said he was trying to get his hand in the way it would make more sense.
Crazy brain fart moment.
We all have them, I guess.

I personally can't believe Hinshelwood allowed himself to be replaced by him as a sub, what was he thinking?

Should he have been in the wall? I’d have had him more as the little guy lying on the floor behind

No, he was definitely moving his arm away from his body, towards the ball, it was just stupid thing to do in a penalty area with a couple of minutes to play when you have the 3 points. I wouldn't talk to him for a week if I was Dunk.

He's getting better all the time. At 21, he's a real prospect and has had a good season.

If you don't have the patience to watch our young talents develop, mistakes and all, then you're going to be perpetually frustrated being an Albion fan.
I’ve been going since the early 80s, so I don’t need anyone to tell me about frustration! I’ve got a Masters in it like many on here. However, we are perpetually excusing players (and managers) with youth, development and patience often cited as reasoning. Is this wearing a bit thin, given it’s the PL? The nature of today’s latest example of a rookie mistake belongs in the non league not so called greatest league in the world.

You might have been going since the early 80s, but Brighton & Hove Albion has never done this before. We have never had so many very young and very talented players that we need to nurture.

We are making this work at Premier League level. We have not been at risk of relegation for some years now. We have been comfortably mid-table or better for the last few seasons. But it is not a flawless process - our young players WILL make mistakes, they will cost us points from time to time, as they continue to improve.

If we were at risk of relegation, you might have a point here - but we're not. We're still in with a shout of Europe. We've just earned a point against a currently top 4 side. Ayari made a mistake, but he's had a great season. He wasn't the first young player to cost us points this season, and he probably won't be the last either.

So would you be pro TB selling up to the Saudis so they can bankroll players outside of youth, development and patience, as that's the only way in the EPL these days if you want success.......

Exactly this, his hand was so far away from his body therefore it’s a pre-meditated movement, hence the question ‘what was he thinking?’
Perfectly reasonable question to ask on a Brighton fc message board

But we are also just overhyped really. Our team is bang average for this division and that is why we’re finishing mid table. Which is still overachieving if we’re considered about things.
Agree with this. Do we really deserve to qualify for Europe this season? Injuries haven't helped, but it's difficult to argue we are more than a mid-table side. Newcastle were the superior team today - a win would definitely have flattered us.

Reflex action, zero blame from me.

I am more of the opinion that Pawson was determined he’d do all he could to stop us winning that game

You’re very well informed for someone who’s not been going as long. You’re right of course, we never played young players back then. Everyone had 5 years national service and 5 years cleaning boots before they were allowed near a football. Anyway, I’m looking up not down so I’d argue the opposite to your point: that we’re aiming to be more than merely to avoid relegation each season. If so, maybe likes of him are too premature to be deserving of firing us into Europe or a cup final?
