Away Ticket Prices

Personally, I'm started to feel rather fleeced by ticket prices. Home prices are different, the money goes to my club, so I can take that, but away, I'm not doing the Albion any financial good.

Last season I didn't go to West Ham, because I felt it was too expensive, seemed like they had forgotten they had been relegated. That was a nailed on away trip for me until the prices were announced.

This season, £30 to be treated like shit by the Met, when we play at Selhurst. That was another nailed on trip that I'm now having serious doubts about.

What worries me, is how many other trips I was looking forward to will now throw up the same dilemma? Anyone know how much the away end is for Leeds and Southampton?

A quick look at footballgroundguide suggests southampton £25-£34 and leeds £25

Does that mean Southampton will look at it as a "big game" because it's a local derby and whack us with £34 ?!

i think the money for away days is well worth it - i look forward to it all week, get shit faced on the mini bus, sing til my throat is sore as f***, then chat the whole way home!

The problem is that the ticket cost is a small fraction of what I spend on an away trip.

For the likes of Leeds, I'm up there for the whole weekend, so an extra tenner on the ticket price really won't make squat difference.

I seem to recall trying to explain that to some Forest fans a few years back when they thought we'd only brought over a thousand to their ground on a Tuesday night because it was a fiver. I pointed out to them that the difference in the home attendance was far more marked than the difference in our away contingent.

I'm afraid I will just grin and bear the away prices this season. Can't say I'm looking forward to when we're in the Prem, though. I don't think I will be able to afford HOME tickets then.

The Saints game is designated as a GOLD fixture for them and the (home) tickets are £26 or £28.

I would imagine that we will have to pay £28

Anyone who has studied even a little bit of economics will know about supply and demand and the elasticity of demand to price changes.

The demand of away fans must be relatively inelastic in that regardless of the price, within reason, they will still make the purchase (of an away ticket).

What does surprise me though is when people say something like "£28 - I'm not paying that." So would they pay £27? £25 maybe. Presumably £20 is ok?

Regardless, the ticket price is only part of the price of an away day - train ticket/bus fare/petrol, beers, food, more beers, programme and then some beer. If a ticket costs £20 or £30 does it really make *THAT* much difference to the total cost of your away day?!?

I'm always having to be pick and choose games because of my own football season but it really does seem to be spiralling out of control.

I don't remember paying £25 for Leeds last year and recall Rotherham being quite cheap but some of the games I've highlighted as possibilities to go to this season will cost a bomb.

Looks like I'll have to go to less games than I would normally be able to because of money, not time and availability which have restricted me in the past.

While it does the club no financial good, it does the team a world of good in spurring them on on the pitch. The players are always saying how the away support keeps them going and helps them raise their game when they are struggling. I'd say that was just as worthwhile.

No offence LB but I wouldn't go back there, wasn't the most pleasant day out there last time I went.

Besides, the in-laws are just down the road.

i phonSaints and it is in fact £26 and £28.

I am not exactly tight fisted, however fopr the first time in many many years I am going to pick and chose the away games.

So far, I will probably do...............QPR, maybe Leeds ( but I have no reason to go up there now since the last of my family in Yorkshire died a few months ago) Coventry perhaps, Southampton, Leicester ( as we have an office not far from the ground) Palace ....that is about it.

Funnily enouigh before the season started I was banking on going to all of them, but I am getting to the stage where I just cant really be arsed...I never thought I would ever feel that way about supporting the lads. With petrol etc the price of an away game is £100...I can think of many things I would rather do with £100

So, as per my point above, this has very little to do with ticket prices as the difference between £22 and £28, say, does not dramatically change the cost of your day out...
