New film coming out on the 22nd May about Tranmere Rovers in the late 1970'sand the hooliganism surrounding their club. I've had a look at the website and it looks quite good actually! It offers a bit of an insight into the trouble on the terraces and rivalries from the past. I'm quite interested to see the northern perspective of it rather than another Green Street or Football Factory!

The book is a lot more than just thug porn - hope the film manages to capture that rather than be just another Mockney/Birkenhead carry on.

I've just had a quick preview and for all you fans of the genre it is choc a bloc with the following phrases :

Tooled up
Scrote
Having it large
Giving it the big one
Top Boys
Manor
Firm
Slag
Filth
Kick off
Rumble
And my fave compliment to the female form "I'd love to smash the granny out that"

Seriously i am not "mugging you off". The only down side is that amazingly Tamar and Danny are not in it!

My piss taking aside, the problem i have with so many of these films is that there often seems to be an underlying respect for the hoolies as if its something to be proud of. Sure, if its a no brainer pop corn movie you want then they will do the job but they rarely approach the subject manner in any different or imaginative manner. Ultimately football hooliganism as the core subject might just be too narrow and cliche ridden.

The only one i thought had a little more to it than most was 'ID' with Reece Dinsdale

The book isn't just about the fighting though and looked at the hooligan thing through a completely set of perspectives.

The book is absolutely f***ing superb.

If anyone wants to borrow it, let me know. I'll send it to you, as long as you promise to let me have it back

That's outrageously trusting of you! I had'nt heard of it before i saw the trailors to the film...and seen as everybody seems to be raving about the books, it seems i would be foolish not to read it!

Saw it the other day in manchester! I thought it was decent, a couple of savage scenes! but that was to be expected!

I've heard that you can't watch it anywhere south of London though? thats rediculous if its true...
