Acker79. Thank you for the response. You wrote with more clarity than the initial post. If I dare a third post I'll keep it shorter without fluff. Colchester if Ipswich play Norwich, Cheltenham if Bristol play each other, Scunthorpe v Rotherham. Even Tranmere. Just strange to go to a town that didn't seem that bothered.

Acker79, we need your help again.

Can someone please explain the "great acapella"? As far as I'm aware a cappella was originally intended to differentiate between Renaissance polyphony and Baroque concertato style, and I'm not sure how this relates to a pub in Hartlepool.

Let me have a go at this...

My friend and I went to Hartlepool on the day we were to play them. It was quite clear we were not from around the area. It took a while but eventually a chap from the area was able to point us to a good pub. We were terrified that, as we were Brighton fans and their rivals for the day we might face a little bother, but fortunately the early kick off was Sunderland v Newcastle, so the local fans were more interested in watching the game than starting any trouble with me and my friend.

Have you ever experienced a situation where you were at the home of one of our rival teams, but people were more interested in the 'bigger' teams on TV, so didn't care about your presence?

Oh now I get it. What a shit question.

If that's the question ...

The answer is Yes. Notts County last season. The fact that the pre-match game on telly was Palarse v Forest kept everybody quiet. If only BOTH teams could have lost, everyone would have been happy.

You've never been to Hartlepool, obviously.

I think that's a list of teams whose fans would ignore us if the accompanying match was on tv (e.g. colchester would ignore us if ipswich played norwich).

Scariest away day for me was Wolves in the late 80's, probably a bad choice of pub for pre match drinkies - but had to buy a very expensive round to escape with my looks!

Most benign - some towns like Wigan where they look for the rugby score first.

Two brave heroes went to Hartlepool away last season. On arrival our apparent rendition of smalltown boy and an erasure medley alerted our first friendly local that we're obviously from Brighton. I'm not sure how many pubs they have there but it took a long time for said local (at 11.30 and just 2 'mobbed up') to be pointed toward inn. Our saviour apart from a great acapella was Sunderland Newcastle on the telly early kick off. One pub had Watch Sunderland v C...ts today on a board outside. Being Brighton they couldn't give a toss. Any thoughts about a place where you're at home and the bigger teams matter more. Sorry long message and Brixton is standing tall.

Too right - and the answer is definitely "seafoam green", with the button between the knobs.

Try pulling both together.

I hope this helps.
