Average attendance at the Goldstone...

The last season that we averaged more than 10,000 per home game was in 1983 if my memory of the statistics serves me well.

I can't check because I haven't got my book with me but I am pretty sure that I am right. Where are the average 14,500 break even for Falmer, going to come from

52,000 people came to watch London Irish v Quins on Saturday followed by Wasps v Saracens. That was just for two ordinary league games held back to back. Strange things can happen with the right promotion and marketing.

We use to get over 30,000 on a couple of occasions I'm sure?
Chelsea, Tottenham in the 80's? Is that graph correct?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded and took the time to answer my questions. The material I received was excellent.

Rather than start a separate thread, I have one other question. Can anyone tell me what the official attendance was for the Fans United game against Hartlepool? I’ve tried to search archive reports but there are conflicting figures of around 8,5000 to over 10,000. From reading eye witness accounts, there seems to be a suggestion that official attendances during that period weren’t overly reliable either way.

Thanks in advance.

100% yes.

It suited those in power to understate the attendance, thereby trying to discredit the fans.
Wasn't it, by then, just out of habit.

Where's the graph showing match day receipts from 2011 and every year into infinity where the mighty Albion run along atop of of all those other muppets?

What about the 10.000 locked out of the Rochdale game and all those fans who would watch from the gardens in Goldstone lane:whistle::facepalm:

The 'official' attendance was 8,412

Thanks. Purely out of interest, was it likely that far more were present that day?

I believe some of the exit gates on the North Stand were opened beforehand, so there were plenty in that hadn't paid.
