Somewhere I will definitely visit at some point, I cannot help but think this place must be the closest to death you can ever be.

i went there. as you say curly, when our coach pulled up at the camp there was a few birds feeding away in the grass. usually when birds are feeding hey tend to make a bit of a row. not here though they were very strangley silent. the whole place does tend to have a very sombre atmosphere.
i didnt help when our coach left auszwitch for birkenau which is only a mile or so away, whilst traveling between the 2, a young lad lad on a push bike crossed the road in frony of us, causeing the bus to do an emergency stop. he so nearly got squashed. the whole place just seems to have an unbelievable atmosphere and overwhelming stench of death. but then i suppose 1.8 million people were killed there, so it is understandable.
