Does anyone know anyone from Crawley who supports (and goes) to the Albion ??? 100,000 people in the town (Sussex's second largest population) and bugger all Albion support from it ....

Could Crawley be an 'untapped' Albion fan base? ... 20 minutes drive to Falmer ... possibly championship football?

I think so, living in the West Midlands, I have always been impressed at how Wolves have managed to get support from the outlying areas in spite of the fact that they have lots of other clubs nearby (Villa, the Blues, Walsall, West Brom, Shrewsbury). They do it mostly by working on 'family football' initiatives and by getting into the local Schools. I see no reason why we couldn't be successful if we did the same at Falmer - provided the standard of football was good.

At the end of every season (before the pitch is ripped up) there is a football tournament for local schools, with the winning team being presented their medals by a couple of Wolves players.

Also, if we could manage to get an England under-21 game at Falmer it may get in a lot of Sussex folk who may not normally go to see the Albion play to see how accessible Falmer is and tempt them to come on a more regualr basis... a lot of the things I have said are things that the club already does, so I see no reason why a decent fanbase from the outlying areas of Sussex cannot be built up.

[edit] - Another set of fans that can be tapped into are students - I was a Vice-President at the University of Wolverhampton Students' Union and worked together with Wolves towards this, which was a mutually beneficial relationship - Wolves got a bit of free advertising and the Students' Union got tickets to give away as competition prizes from time to time. All full-time students got discounted tickets with their NUS card.

I've lived in Crawley most of my life and I can honestly say I know far more Albion fans than Palace fans that live in Crawley, having said that, there is more than our fair share of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool glory hunting fans here ! At least the local scum fans support a local team !!

I can only presume because its marginally nearer
Its not though is it Brightons nearer and far easier to get to ! If anyones plumped for Palace over us in recent years, it's because we've been fairly shit and they've flirted with the Premier league !
Lets hope that changes now Falmer is on the way !

I worked in Crawley for 5 years and the majority of people I met who lived there opted for Palace over Brighton. I can only presume because its marginally nearer
That and the fact that they are the dregs at the shallow end of the gene pool.

Without wishing to be pedantic Crawley is nearer to Palace than Brighton is to Crawley by about 5 or 6 miles.

As for what you say about them flirting with the Premier Lge and us with extinction, i'd totally agree with that

I neither wish to be pedantic but according to RAC route planner
My house to Selhurst Park 25 miles 44 minutes
My house to Withdean 20 miles 31 minutes
and I live on the Northern side of Crawley.

I live in ifield for about 5, been in and around Crawley for 10 years but I've supported the Albion for 20 odd years!

Although that's probably because I was a Lancing lad!

My condolences to any Brighton fan who lives in Crawley.

A couple of years ago I moved to a village close to Crawley. Full of Chelsea :hammer: and palace  scum.

Brought up in Crawley, folowed Leeds as a kid (don't ask...), lived in London and Brighton twice each and started watching the Albion in 90/91 and never looked back. I don;t think I knew one Albion fan when I was living in Crawley, it was all Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal mainly.

Balanced

Very well balanced people in Crawley, mostly ex-londoners with chips on both shoulders.
