Cos Bob is being paid any way and 2 -3 weeks saving on a managers salary is quite a lot.
You learnt nothing as to why they did not appoint a manager over the summer months last year!

Re last summer, I think the delay was down to a certain ex Man U winger and Palace manager not being able to make a decision . You really should pay more attention marvin

I don't think RLZ claimed that the new manager was "already lined up" or that it was "all in hand".
I think RLZ had reasons to believe that DK "knew who he wanted".

It's seems quite appropriate that there should be a delay, to let BB take the reins, give transition some time , and test how the players respond to a 'lack of Coppell'.
The first couple of games will see the players proving that they are playing for the club foremost, and weren't just putting themselves out for the old manager only. It asks something of the character of the team and the individuals.
Since they apparently like BB, they will probably want to underline his status as a capable and affable man to work with as well.
As a politic, it behooves DK to show confidence in all the staff currently at the club - and they've now got 3 more points, three goals and a clean sheet. The best win-margin this season isn't it?
The true test comes when we need a tactician to compete in a tough contest, and turn things around - and also after a few weeks when the results of training techniques bear fruit - or go fruitless.
There's really no need to rush into anything because SC left, and look desparate - a vote of confidence has been given to BB as a professional member of the staff regardless of when we get another manager in.
However, with due respect to MH, if Bob Booker were to say something like "I can now retire, the lads have made me a happy man" after this win, I'd be getting very nervous!

I mentioned that DK was already prepared for the possibility of losing Coppell when the West Ham vacancy occured and therefore had already started thinking ahead.
Next week sees the restart of the Falmer inquiry which will take up a lot of DK's time for a fortnight.
That is why, imho, DK is allowing himself two-three weeks for the appointment.
I believe that he knows who he wants and has probably already had initial discussions with that party - but at the same time he is also interested to see "what turns up in the post" over the next week.

Word from inside the club, they're hoping he doesn't get it too
Bob is the one consistent and stabilising member of the coaching staff and one of the reasons we have been able to bounce back each time we have been knocked by losing managers.
For this reason alone I feel he should remain as assistant manager.
I would hope the incoming manager would recognise his worth and keep him here too.

Sunday Times today quotes that Tony Adams has expressed an interest but that he is not being pusued by DK "at this stage"

After the Oldham match yesyterday he was talking about hoping "they" survive as a club rather than "us" which may mean his mind is elsewhere - this is how Taylor used to refer to us in about April a few weeks before he left
As Booker is out of contract at the end of the season - I would expect DK to get the new manager and Booker ( with a pay rise ) to both sign contracts to the end of June 2005 - this would give us a bit of stability
Dowie and Booker would seem to be very similar personality wise and would hit it off very quickly
Dowie has taken a team living from day to day on a 9 game unbeaten run - so obviously knows what he is doing - he fits all of Knights citeria

- is ambitious - why he joined Oldham - spoke of "broken promises" re Chairman who puuled the plug financially
- can nuture squad - has clearly proved his ability to do this at Oldham this season
Also Rob Forzoni who was Coppells coach / sports psychologist has also left and gone to Reading with him as well - negotiating this being the reason for the delay in joining Reading - as well as the reason for the delay in Coppell signing the contract with us last summer as well
As for Coppell signing any of our players - I would not be surprised to see Rehman sign on loan for the season at Reading from Fulham - but do not believe he will sign either of Knight or Cullip

I would be happy to have Booker as manager if we had a decent Director of Football with a grasp of tactics and strategy rather than Martin Tinselhead.
I had a horrible feeling of deja vu in the first half yesterday - it was just like the Hinshelwood years (OK weeks but it felt like years! Players playing with very little idea of what they're supposed to be doing - Cullip arguing with Michel etc. I reckon Booker told them at half-time that if they didn't buck their ideas up, he wouldn't have a cat in hells chance of the job - and, as we know, players like internal appointments because new managers might bring in new players in their position.
We need a strategist at the club. Mind you if it is true that Booker was on the phone to Hinshelwood taking notes in the stands, I may have to eat my words.
