...I think it's about time people stood up and gave Dick Knight and Martin Perry in particular, but the board in general, the thanks and credit they deserve for getting the Albion to this point where the stadium is finally a genuine reality and not just a fantasy.
Knight has taken plenty of stick on this board, over Falmer, over the team, over the perceived lack of investment in this club. What's important to remember is that he has never been, nor ever claimed to be a Roman Abramovich figure, and those who criticise him for what they see as a lack of financial input seriously misread the situation. He and others have kept the club afloat, just about, through some of the roughest times any football club has had to endure, as despite what some people would have you believe, there were no billionaires queuing up to take over.
Ultimately, the Albion would not be where they stand today without years (and it is years now) of devotion, hard work and persistence from Dick Knight, and I think it's only fair that we now pay tribute to him for that. He's no youngster, and has probably got numerous better things to do in life than sit there and listen to grief from a bunch of disgruntled football fans, yet he still comes in to work every day. We've had so many setbacks in the whole Falmer charade, nobody could have blamed it for jacking it in and walking off into the sunset, but he's stuck it out, in the face of a long line of doubters and a whole stack of opponents.
Whatever you think about the team, about Wilkins, about the formation or results, at least for one moment, let's give Dick, in particular, the thanks and applause he really merits, on Friday night, and take this as a real cue to move onwards & upwards.
(and then have a bloody good night
