Given that we regularly namecheck the Argus, BBC, and official website for news without asking permission are we not getting a little precious about this?

The forum is a brilliant idea, end of.

I sometimes write something in the heat of the moment, that on reflection I realise is ridiculous/offensive/idiotic and I'm sure many, many, many NSCers do exactly the same. If someone was printing something I'd said in an official programme that I wrote on an unedited forum like NSC where sometime people do get extreme I would at least like to be aware first.

The Argus, BBC and official website all have editorial policies - they use quotes taken from people who know they will probably have their comments published in these, therefore can alter their comments appropriately etc.

HOWEVER, this isn't really the point. It's the principle that the club have allowed this to be set up which is a great idea, but not even asked or said that it would be used for this. It's just common courtesy.

Sometimes the club cannot win. They get slagged off for lack of communication and now people are getting arsey that their questions on NSC are also being published in the programme.

Perhaps it was an oversight by The Insider due to the fact that he spends a lot of time answering questions here, but personally I think we should not be so mealy mouthed about what he has done (given that he also contributes to the programme).

As for making posts without thinking, when the 'Ask the Club' forum was set up we did ask people to engage brain before using their keyboards, and a lot of crap questions have been removed.

Apart from the ones YOU put on there.

Funny that.

El Pres, it's a good idea, and even if it is a bit frustrating that you can't come back on the answers without boring everyone by starting another thread, it's a good service. Printing it all was a bit cheeky without telling the mods or alerting people, that's all. And you're certainly right that in that particular forum if you're embarrassed about what you've said, then, err, don't say it.

I think it will be important to get the search facility back again, if only for the ask the club forum, otherwise we will find the same questions getting asked over and over again.

Of course people will have to make the effort to use the search of course.

Also can there not be some sort of banner at the top to encourage users to check if the same question has been asked already and not to post pointless questions.

An example at the moment is the club ringtones question why couldn't he ring the club shop and not waste the insiders time

It's Quid Pro Quo - Insider has no obligation, either moral or contractual, to answer any of the questions put to him on NSC. Since his answers are ' official ' club information then obviously they can be published by the club. It would look pretty stupid publishing answers without questions.

And as we're all hiding behind pseudonyms any way, what does it matter !

And yes, you do sound precious - as if anyone of us care about what you say on NSC !

NSC is edited. If you regret what you've posted, you can either edit it or delete it yourself. Obviously if you stand by everything you've said then you can't really have any complaints about it being published in some other form. Or do you wish to assert your rights under copyright law, that you are the sole owner of any such posting and reproduction cannot be made in any form without your express permission blah, blah, blah......

In which case, the moderators had better remove the ability to cut & paste !

Look at it another way though, what if the anti-falmer brigade published a newsletter that pulled out comments from NSC from people who were against Falmer or criticised the running of the club.

I know that it is slightly different, but how would you feel then?

I can't see any problem in havng the questions reproduced in the programme. It's all in the public domain anyway, and I think that these Q & As get seen by as many people as possible.

And what's the big deal if our names are in the programme. It's not as if it's our REAL names (in most cases) and addresses is it. [btw Chappers should now change his name to Max Jaffa - if your too young to understand this then google it]

And what's the big deal if more people come on here to see that Ask The Club forum - that's GOOD isn't it? Or are we all trying to be elitist here?

But they wouldn't be able to without their full name & address. It wouldn't have any credibility.

I'd treat any ' newsletter ' as propaganda, nothing more. They could have made all or any of these ' quotes ' up anyway.

exactly

Insider puts a lot of time and effort into that forum. It's unbelievable that anyone would even question the right of the club to reproduce the answers in the match programme. Proof positive that people really will moan about ANYTHING

Surely you would admit that Bozza should have been consulted beforehand? OK, he would more likely than not have said 'fine no problem' and quite right too. But for the the club to unilaterally annex an NSC forum for reprinting straight into the match programme is really not very good manners.

I am sure The Insider would have done so, but with two programmes to prepare in four days, plus answering (with patience and great courtesy) all the shite on the forum he probably did not get round to it.

Perspective, Tom. This is very small beer.

The publicity this gives NSC is amazing. If they overlooked a phone-call, perhaps it because they have a million and one other different things to do related to the appeal or other Albion media stuff.

We are fans of the club and we must operate in sympathy with club employees and not find picky, little faults in how they operate, that's totally the wrong mindset - the club workers are working their balls off on behalf of us all.

Sure thing. Perspective and small beer. Just have to agree to disagree then, as is the norm. I fully appreciate that Insider has added an important new dimension to the site, but remain of the view that the presumption of an NSC forum being a fully-owned satellite of the club was a bit, eh, presumptious. Have my doubts that NSC is actually courting publicity, I mean why would it? Never has in the past. But at the end of the day, when all's said and done, cliche 'pon cliche, I guess Bozza's opinion is the one that counts here, rather than yours or mine. Would be interested to hear Bozza's opinion on whether he's happy, unhappy or couldn't give a flyer about a version of the forum appearing in the match programme and the first he appears to know about it is when he buys a programme or reads about it on here. Pretty major oversight, the club not asking the owner of the site for permission to fill two pages of the match programme with out-takes from the site, I'd have thought. But heigh-ho, might be wrong. Life goes on, eh?
