I'm going to the Long Man straight from work tonight before the game, cos its not worth me pissing around going home only to have to drive back to Patcham less than half an hour later. However, one of my SO-CALLED mates has just texted to say he won't be there till nearly 7 now. So unless there's a surprise timely appearance from one of my other buds, it looks like I'll be a right BILLY in the corner, on his own with a pint and a paper for the best part of an hour.

Hate that.

Stop trying to guilt people into drinking with you.

You saw right through me.

Actually, I really don't mind my own company - in fact, many of my favourite activities are done all alone (although probably unsuitable for a public bar). I just don't like being in a pub on my own. Theres a STIGMA attached isn't there. You can't help but look like an alcoholic, a saddo, a loner, or all three.

One my gap year I used to spend a couple of afternoons a week in Hectors House drinking Caffreys and reading the paper. It was most relaxing and I didn't even think about any stigma that might be involved.

I wouldn't feel awkward if I were you.

If I had a particularly stressful day I used to get off the train and pretty much always read the paper in The STATION at Preston Park for half an hour or so on my own, it was almost the only time of the day I had to myself.

These days I just go home and take it out on the missus with my FISTS  :jester:

Fair enough then. I shall drink and read alone, confident in the knowledge that people far cooler than ME regularly spend time down the pub by themselves. And if anyone comes over to have a pop, I'll damn well tell them as well.

Just don't say "My internet buddies think it's cool".

I don't do "pub alone".

Unless ALBION are on the telly and I'm in my local. But then I know some of the REGULARS in there so it matters NOT.

Aye, the locals a bit different. I can kill an hour there if I need some grub or something. But my pre-match pub isn't my local, its just full of loads of STRANGERS being LOUD.

How people can sit in a pub on their own without either a) food b) cigarettes or c) reading material is entirely beyond me - I hate it even if I'm only waiting for someone. This is something done solely by trampy old people.

I could NEVER sit in a pub alone and just stare into space. On the occasions when I've found myself in a pub alone with no reading material, I turn to my mobile phone and pretend to text someone, or make out I'm busy scheduling something into its little diary/calender thing.

No problem with going into a pub, solo.
But the cinema, now that's completely different. I've only ever done it once & vowed never to do it again.
