Are Women Less Reliable Than Men?

Women have it tougher if they're raising a family and combining the two but I think they're more reliable in general I reckon. There are a couple of girls who are difficult to work with if it's the time of the month though.

For what it's worth, I've analysed the absence statistics among my staff over the last five years. It's a small company -- average workforce size around 60 during this period. Office-based, no manual work, largely professional graduate workforce (apart from a few support staff), with a lot of home-working and flexible working (we don't care that much where or when they work as long as they deliver).

And there is indeed a statistically significant difference between male and female absence rates over the period: on average the women took around 30% more days absence per year than the men. They were also more likely to take an extended (longer than a week) period of absence than men.

There is also a relationship with age: absence rates were highest amongst the youngest and oldest staff (possibly for different reasons -- hangovers vs. age-related illnesses), and with seniority: more senior staff took less absence than their junior counterparts -- not sure whether this is because their jobs are more interesting and they have more autonomy and control over their work, or because they have a stronger work ethic (and that's how they got to be senior).

Men do it as well, but women tend to be worse in my experience. My missis attends early morning gym classes 2 or 3 times a week and has told me of women who will attend the gym class then, when chatting in the changing rooms afterwards, tell her that they're off work 'sick' and somehow rationalise this sort of behaviour as not taking the piss.[/QUote

They always have a ' rational ' excuse for whatever they get up to. I mean everything!
