Are we a dull side?

Listening to some of the match on the net yesterday and yet again it seems that we created very few goalscoring opps., which seems to be the trend with the Albion these days. It's strange because we've now got some exciting young, attack minded players, yet we very rarely score more than one in a match, if scoring at all. There's very few teams that score less than us in any league and it's beginning to get frustrating.

What is interesting is that people are speaking of the beginnings of this great passing side this season. Well to me, playing the ball on the deck is all very well and good but it doesn't automatically make for exciting games, indeed direct football can be more exhilarating. How can we get out of this rut?:(

oh and one more thing, has anyone noticed that we hardly ever seem to score exciting goals either anymore? How about some long range thunderbolts this season!!

Dull is harsh, defensive is true. We have tried to be more attacking and at times did knock the ball around well but we need to get Carole and another good winger to cause any sort of threats in this division. Playing through the middle does not work and only with wide men will we start creating more chances.

What "rut"? We're 3 games in and bedding down new players with every game.

I agree with you that sometimes a balance has to be struck between playing passing football and pressuring the opposition with direct movements. McGhee found that balance last season after we started the season in too "passing" a mode. So let's give him the chance to find that balance this season, particularly now that he is working with better players.

blimey     A positive reply from LI:eek:   Be careful mate as some people on here will start liking you:lolol:

Hardly surprising because every Summer we scrape together a team made with free transfers, loans and youth teamers. We need Falmer and a bit of moolah to play around with, end of!

And personally I don't care how the goals go in as long as we win.

Firstly, the rut I'm referring to is more about our inability to hit the back of the net enough, and specifically over the last year, inability to finish teams off, the whole post is centred around last season as well as this one.

and for god's sake get off Mcghee's penis!! I'm not having a dig at him, I'm just trying to drum up some healthy debate

We've got good enough strikers I feel but the problem area is still the midfield. There is ZERO creativity, no one who can hit a decent ball longer then 10 yards and no pace in there. Charlie Oatway tackles well and can hold the ball up but not a lot else. How we need a Sidwell now.

With a few decent balls going into the box we'd score shitloads more.

Have we got good enough strikers though?

Knight....Not a golascorer in this league, proved that last season

CKR...An attacking midfielder being played out of position

El Turi...7 goals in about 40 odd professional games, a provider

Mcphee & Trolley....don't be silly

Jake...possibly the answer, hence why a lot of people calling for his inclusion

The fact that Charlie was our most creative midfielder yesterday says a lot. We need someone with some flair and creativity but as MM says they are a rare breed and they dont come cheap.

Such a shame injury ended your career at such a young age then matey;)

I seem to recall that when we reached our highest ever Football League position back in 1982 we were pretty boring. That was a factor in Mike Bailey's dimissal so I've been told.

Thing is that until we have a decent stadium and the funding that it should bring to the team we may have to settle for drab survival football. Ask yourself this, 3-3 draw or 1-0 win ?

Oi, you paranoid :dunce: BMF said my reply to you was positive. And it was, bearing in mind the usual random stuff that you produce :salute: Hope's that healthy enough for you.

What am I paranoid about? I know you're not having a dig at me. You just misinterpreted what I meant by "stuck in a rut" and I was clearing it up.

Knight - he IS good enough for this league - Starved of service.

CKR - a great talent, you'll see

Turi - So far so good and can only get better, will be good alongside an in-form LK or CKR.

McPhee and Trolley....well, agree with you there Dwaynester

Jake... give him time

Chelsea ran away with the Premiership last season owing to their strong midfield even though they had wank strikers.

i dont think we are dul because i love the albion. however, just about every 'neutral' i ever take to a game leaves complaining we are the most 'boring team i have ever seen'.

erm, gudjohnsen is a fantastic player and drogba, despite his appaling touch, isnt a bad player!!

i agree- CKR is unproven and anyone saying he is an amazing player is showing blind faith. i will fully support him, however, he is an 18 year old with VERY limited first team experience.

the key is our midfield though. it simply IS NOT good enough.
