Perhaps it's because Catholic priests like to be around sweaty youths and therefore set up lots of football clubs for them, thus ensuring that they work on their ball skills from a younger age...

I think the O.P has nailed it. God is Catholic.

Except when the Rugby or Cricket is on. Then he's a dirty protestant. Or when American Football is on. Then he's a mormon or something. Or when the Kabbadi's on. Then he's a Sikh or Hindi or muslim.

Catholics learn to concentrate, despite distractions, from an early age. This helps when you're plays football under immense pressure, and surrounded by the opposition. Being able to perform a 'Cruyff turn', beat two defenders and play a killer ball onto the head of your centre-forward is a doddle after spending years trying to remember when to ring a bell while your underwear is wet.

But what about the Protestant Work Ethic!!!

Anyway, the Lutheran Germans are going to win.

The south people in ireland exposes a major flaw in your prognosis

You'd probably be surprised then which was the first team to ever beat the England team in England then, wasn't the 6-3 Hungarians of 1953.

... is Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, Uruguay, Portugal or other Catholic country going to win the World Cup again,
or do you think any Protestant, Muslim or Orthodox team might be able to stop them this year?

Also, what do you think is the reason for the domination of Catholic teams in football (apart from the fact that God loves us the most)?

Thats a very good question and deserves a good answer so here goes. Has FA to do with God and more to do with Monomania in Religion and sport.

To start with its about the only sport they do play, well italy play a bit of rugby but are shit at it. Argies play rugby but are easy to ignore which pisses them of so its a worship of the round pigskin for them.

Other countries either play other sports so dont specialise, like us, or different sports to obsess over like cricket for India and Windies. It also helps that the countries mentioned have 2 other interesting characteristics.

They have never been part of The British Empire so dont have an influx of sports and generally have an Anglophile outlook(even spain and Argentina, the latter being notoriously skitzo).

So a mix of specialisation and orthodox conformaty with a pinch of historical fluke.

With a name like Rooney, and being brought up in liverpool, I'd have thought there must be a more than even chance that he is from a Catholic family anyway.

As, quite possibly, are Gary Cahill (eligible to play for Ireland if he hadn't chosen England) and Phil Jagielka (could have played for Poland).

I dont know if Rooney is Cafolic or not. Anyway he is an English Cafolic so it doesn't really count its not like he's Italian is it.
My source says that they regulary tug away at any opportunity during the World Cup. Maybe they go in the confessional after the final whistle.
It was so rife in the England squad that if they were playing badly Sven would threaten to pull them off at half time.
Makes a change from half an orange.
