Arsenal are the only British team left in the Champions League. But with NO British players starting against Real Madrid, and their manager being a French bloke, are they really anymore British than a Ford or a Vauxhall? ???

Its a shame. Should they get to the final I'll find it a lot harder to support them than when Man Utd and Liverpool made it.

Last year seeing Carragher and Gerrard with the trophy was such a great image, likewise with Man Utd.

Maybe Theo Walcott will come on in the final and score the winner.

So yes

Good point. I hadn't thought of that.

Simple.

Agreed.

From August 2006 will be playing at the "Emirates Stadium" rather than Highbury. Moving further away from their traditions.

700 minutes played without a British player. A foreign manager and a new stadium sponsored by a foreign company.

Are they are British club? Yes Is their success in Europe good for English football? Yes. Have they got any soul or identity? No.

I have a small amount of sympathy with them on this one. They wanted Wright-Phillips in the summer but because Chelsea wanted him that was the end of that. Would they want Rooney, yes but could never go to £25m.

Look at the Walcott deal and they have gambled a lot of money on his potential now rather than wait and see how good he is, and then see him go to Chelsea.

They did this before with Jeffers and it failed badly. Pennant is a good player but clearly troubled, Wright probably wasn't quite good enough. The one player you could criticise Wenger about was Upson.

Any TRIED and TESTED English players will end up at Chelsea or United because that is where the money is.

I was sort of glad to see Arsenal go through and Chelsea and Liverpool go out this week. In fact I'm hoping for an Arsenal v Barcelona final. Why?

Liverpool and Chelsea between them contain a fair number of the England squad while top Spanish, French and Brazilian players are at Barca and Arsenal. Our hard-working English lads can now look forward to 5 midweeks with their feet up in front of the telly while their Spanish, French and Brazilian equivalents will still be busting a gut to win the Champs League. Messrs Gerrard, Cole, Lampard, Terry and company will then be just that little bit less knackered prior to the world cup than Henry, Pires or Reyes

They are about as British as a horsemeat and garlic baguette. Basically they are a French club that happens to be based in London. My mate lives in France and a lot of his wife's family are Arsenal fans - and they don't think they support an English club.

They still represent the English league though, as Hiney pointed out. Their presence helps the Premiership and therefore English football.

Huh?

How exactly does the Premiership contribute anything whatsoever to the wellbeing of English football?

They have hijacked every penny they can to line their own pockets and the pockets of players who don't give a toss about real football clubs and the real people who support them.
